I'm full of questions these days. Can a wolf guard be allocated to a sky claw pack the same way it can be allocated to a blood claw pack? I see that wolf guard can take a jump pack, and that that skyclaws are not listed among the units that a wolf guard can join. I think that it's crazy that wolf guard like hanging out with a bunch of noobs on foot and riding bikes, but stay away from the guys that fly. I was just more curious if this was amended somewhere by GW to fix an error in the codex. Or are Wolf Guard just too cool to hang out with the jump pack crowd?
It says on page 86 of the SW dex that " A wolf Guard may be allocated to the following squads: Blood Claws, Swiftclaw Bike Packs, Grey Hunters, Wolf Scouts, and Long Fangs..." So I am going to have to inform you that he cannot join a unit of Sky Claws. GW has not faq it otherwise. So for now Wolf Guard are to cool to hang around the "jump pack crowd" Unless you want to take a unit of Jump Packing Wolf Guard. I highly recommend otherwise.
The Wolf time is upon us!

Armies: Space Wolves, Imperial Guard, Emperors Children, Necrons, Eldar
I figured as much. Just didn't seem to make sense though, as they can join every other bloodclaw variant. Ah well, time to rehash my ol' list.
take the jump pack wolf guard i find them fun to use for fun games but dont work too well in competitive games. But if you wanna be like my local space wolves cheese player just take logan grimnar land raiders and wolf guard in termi armor for troops with bjorn for the long range shooting
You could attach one of your HQ ICs to them. That'd give you pretty much the same effect.
Yeah, I have a count-as chaplain that I was using as my HQ in my small-point vanilla army. I was just going to use him as my count-as wolf priest. I wanted to be able to sink a powerfist into the skyclaw squad so I could reliably go after light tanks. Plus I already had a sergeant with powerfist made up, now that all my sergeant models now count as wolf guard, and was trying to find a way to keep using him. Not that it'll bother me too much, though. I have a feeling all my jump pack marines are going to go on the shelf as soon as I can put together some other models to replace them in the army roster.
Headstrong and Berserk Charge rules.
These rules only effect Blood Claws, even though Skyclaws and Swiftclaws have them; since they aren't Blood Claws these rules have no effect.
Read them, if you say that Skyclaws can't have Wolf Guard because they aren't Blood Claws, then you are also saying they don't follow these special rules for the same reason.
Threadomancy here, but just to put the point across that the Berserk Charge and Headstrong are not special rules reserved purely for the Blood Claws *entry* in the Codex.
According to the fluff on the relevant pages of the Codex, SwiftClaws and Skyclaws are units made from particularly difficult members of Blood Claws Packs. Whilst not using fluff as a reason for any particular rules being assigned to a unit, these two units are Blood Claws in all but name, and this is why the two Fast Attack units have Headstrong and Berserk Charge. They do get to use the abilities conferred by these rules since they are listed under the Special Rules for those particular units.
The reason Skyclaws can't have a Wolf Guard is because the Codex rules that they can't. Pure and simple. Whether it's an "oops" by GW who can tell? It's not permitted in the Codex, it hasn't been Errata'ed by the FAQs, so that's all there is to it.
Sorry to continue the threadomancy.
