so recently i decided that I am finished wearing my Templar mantle. I always loved my good old Black Templars, but its time to hang it up and move on to an army that doesn't have a single minded approach to battle (i liked the old days before taking a single causality caused us to abandon objectives and rush towards the enemy like servants of Khorne)
I'm planning on making them (along with the 40 or so other marines i have) into a company of imperial fists (cause regardless of the codex i use, i shall always be a Son of Dorn!) only problem i have is that i have 30 or some marines with Bolt pistols and CCW's and normal marine tactical squads can't use such models, so now i'm stuck with a massive templar force i have no intention of ever playing again and no idea what to do with it! I need the help of my brothers on LO to help me figure out what to do with them
here's a list of all the models i have (i'll get as detailed as possible)
10 Terminators (4 w/ Lightning Claws, 5 w/ thunder hammers, 1 w/o arms!)
15 Marines w/ jump packs (12 w/ BP+CCW, 1 w/ powerfist, 1/ plasmapistol)
22 Scouts (12 w/ BP+CCW, 5 w/ bolters, 5 w/ snipers)
33 BP+CCW marines
16 bolter marines
4 combi weapon marines (who i might just give bolters by snapping of the combi bits i had added)
4 melta gun marines (who i CAN use in tac squads)
4 power fist marines
4 marines with pw+bolter (were going to be honour guard)
1 marine with a pw+stormbolter (leader of a stearnguard squad)
4 devastators (2 missiles, a plasma cannon and a lascannon)
1 land raider
1 dreadnought (with fixed arms of an assault cannon and power fist)
2 land speeders with hvy bolters (1 a tornado with an assault cannon, the other a typhoon)
5 bikers (2 w/PW 2 regualar, 1 w/ meltagun)
1 atk bike
1 "counts as" pedro kantor
1 WIP TS Shrike
1 Chaplain (was a BA i had pro painted into a templar)
1 Commander w/ PF + bolter (very old model, could have been a bolt pistol that was just REALLY big)
Any help on what i can do with them is greatly appreciated
SIDE NOTE: i have been reading Sons of Dorn and i find it very interesting that the Imperial Fists believe that a sword is the greatest companion for a brother of dorn, yet they have no ability to wield them in a conventional army list... food for thought
I know you said you want to keep it in the Dorn family however maybe taking a look at the blood angels wouldn't be a bad move. There are plenty of lists to run with ccw marines. Other than that I am not sure what you should do with all those models.
In the last 5,000 years humans have not evolved. The things that have changed is our diet its time to revert to our primal nature go paleo http://robbwolf.com
well since you a big fan of russ lets go through the chapters
Imperial fists: when i look at these guys i see an army based around an army which is made to capture objectives and stay on and not move for the rest of the game. Having lysanders bolster defences can make atleast one of the objectives that you know you can capture very well protected from the ap3 weapons. The army is also stubborn so you can look forward to not fleeing so easily in CC as other armies may.
Crimson fists: I would recommend going with these guys, pedro has a really nice model and makes sternguard scoring units and their special issue amunition is perfect for objective based games. The army is also stubborn so the same advantages. Pedro also gives i think all models/units within 12" +1 attack so you may have CC superiority in most cases.
Soul drinkers: Not too many people know these guys but they do have a few books on them. Its been a while since i read their last book but their basically normal marines but i like the idea of their chapter master being a psyker and that they were gifted a weapon that dorn has wielded himself. (i think thats how it goes, someone correct me if im wrong please)
Another option you could do is to homebrew a chapter of your own that's a derivative of the Imperial Fists. That'd let you play the Vanilla chapters as you like, but still be able to swap back to BT when you want to.
Dont do anything to them. You can make three ten man assault squads without jump packs, put them in Rhinos, and surprise your foe. Add a powerfist sergeant for extra punch, and maybe a flamer marine. If you convert them, somewhere down the line GW are going to change the rules to make such units very attractive and leave you rather annoyed. You might also find yourself gravitating back to Templars, especially when they get a new codex. You have plenty of troop choices to fill a vanilla chapter FOC.
Jager bombs. Very efficient at wiping out friend or foe.
yea, just use 7 Boltgun brothers, a melta, free ML, and sarge however you like, and you got 2 troops for killpoints, 4 for everything else. throw all the assault marines in their free droppod, and deepstrike your landsppeders in on the locator beacons. call yourselves Fists and get stubborn. sounds kinda fun actually...
Space Marines: 3ooo
So, in cessation, I don't think the Soul Drinkers are what you're looking for, but feel free to give them a try.
When you fail to drink the Banana of Plasma, succeed in eating the Coffee Bean of Truth
I'd Definitly do what Noli suggested
