Title says it all, is an all infantry space marines list a workable army? A friend of mine and I had a discussion about this the other day in regards to fluffy armies and it got me wondering what the more experienced generals of LO would say.
To start my thoughts were to put a librarian at the head to offer some protection while crossing the field, then scouts, tac squads, Jump Packs (maybe), devastators, maybe a dread to walk with them.
BA jump army is probably one of the most viable however there maybe some other all infintry army out there that can operate well too.

All infantry can definitely be viable, especially in Blood Angels Jump Pack armies, or Space Wolf armies that have a Rune Priest with Storm Caller (to give them all a 5+ cover save), but in virtually all cases, having transports will always make a marine army better.
So yes, all infantry armies can be viable, but they'll still be better if you give them all rhinos/razerbacks. With all the IG players out there with high strength, AP 3, large blast shooting, it's hard to make a list that wouldn't be improved with transports.

It's workable against most armies, but it suffers greatly against mech IG players. They can kill footslogging marines in stupidly high quantanties.
Not so much anymore. The order of the day is for lots of meltaguns in most IG lists, supplemented with autocannons--completely ineffective against an all-MEQ infantry build. Probably there'll be a token Russ or two but you'll surely bring outflankers, deepstrikers or Shrike...heck, your regular Tactical Marine can rip the treads off an LRBT with his bare hands. And Marines have bolters. If you've ever wondered why mech IG is so popular these days, it's because our enemies all have bolters.Originally Posted by watchwood

I think that the space marine codex would be the best for this sort of list. If you have both Kayvaan shrike and sciarius it can be tough to beat.....
