Predator + Twin-Linked Lascannon + Brother Chronus (175)
First of all, would this work in general? If not in general, at least in specific situations? If so, which situations?
I also want to ask if this thing will work with an armylist that I'm planning to build.
The list looks roughly like this:
6 Bike squads (2x melta, 2x plasma, 2x flamer) - minimum size with attack bike
General plan is that first the typhoons wears down the opponent to lessen the danger for vindicators, which shreds the central forces so the bikes clear out the remaining. The role for predator is not much; it will just roam out of the danger to snipe AV14 armors and MCs. It will always move 6" so it won't drag too much (as well it will be behind the lines which won't require as much movement).
That is my opinion, but what is yours? Do you think it could be effectively used to snipe down its target? It will always move/fire unless severly damaged, and 97% of the time will be hitting.
Do you think a single 48" Twin-Linked BS5 STR9 AP2 shot can be useful in a bike army?
It's a very reliable weapon, and it's hard to argue about its effectiveness - a basically guaranteed lascannon hit every turn is handy... But that price tag is scary for a single use weapon.
Given the choice, I'd prefer a Dreadnought with a Lascannon - much cheaper, nearly as reliable, easier to maneuver, and always useful in a fight, too. Slap on a Missile Launcher or TL Autocannon and it's got more firepower yet still much cheaper.
I question the need for yet another big gun in that list, though... After hitting any major threats with 18 Missiles, 2 Demolishers and assorted melta/plasma shots, is a single Lascannon really going to make a difference? Honestly, Meltas are a much better choice for killing AV14, and Autocannons, Assault Cannons and their kin are usually more useful since they put out so many more shots.
The problem I have with Chronus and a twin-linked lascannon is that a twin-linked lascannon doesn't really need BS5. It's overkill.

Mr_Wayne: "Some people believe that the World Eaters do not field any ranged weaponry. Those people often die at a distance."
If anything, mount him on a rifle predator. That would maximize the utility of his enhanced BS.
Alright, I see that the general opinion is overkill. I did expect people suggesting autocannon instead; the only thing that made me choose lascannon is that I like the design (I like things that are symmetric as possible).
I see that a Dreadnought is a good alternative. Now, I got another question. I saw that ForgeWorld sold both left autocannons and right autocannons for the dreadnought. If I equip them both in a single dreadnought, will I be able to fire both of them (total of 4 twin-linked shots)?
Dreadnought + 2 Twin-Linked Autocannons + Extra Armor + Drop Pod (175)
Would this be good?
Ps. rep for you three

...So, yeah, they can.
It's an excellent fire support unit, reliably going to hit with almost every shot and at S7 AP4, it'll wreak havoc on light infantry and most transports while still causing headaches for 3+ armoured troops. Land Raiders, Leman Russes and Monoliths have nothing to fear from it, but that's what the Meltas are for.
Just be careful not to get it stuck in combat - without its DCCW, it's going to have a hard time fighting off most infantry.
Even with it's DCCW, it's not all that great at fighting off infantry. A typical dread only gets a couple attacks a round. You'll average a kill or so a turn, and any enemy unit with a powerfist or enough grenades has a decent chance of getting a draw with that...and the minimal leadership penalties from the losses that you could practical inflict really won't be a big deal to most units that you'd expect to assault a dreadnought.
In short, DCCWs are more about ripping tanks apart efficiently then ripping people apart efficiently. It's still useful, but if you need to scare infantry from getting close then trade that Storm Bolter for a Heavy Flamer.
I appreciate all the comments So, I decided that, if I were to use the Dreadnought + 2 Twin-Linked Autocannons, it's gonna stay in safe distance shooting down things However, the Drop Pod assault rule and a single Dreadnought + Drop Pod amongst all the bikes/vehicles seemed quite off. So, I think a Whirlwind will be better replacement for the Predator as the ordnance barrage will be quite useful addition to fire support. Maybe I will use the Dreadnought some other time 'cause I saw a picture of one and it looked like Hydra Flak Tank in walker version, which seemed very awesome. But for now, I'm trying to focus with the planning of a future bike army.
TBH i think both the dread and pred are pointless - your saying your gonna have 6 units with just 3 bikes and 1 assult bike??
I would use those 175ish points to buy an extra 7 basic bikes to bulk them up a bit - would prob bulk up 3 of them to 5 bikes and an assult bike and then pit a powerfist on one of them and leave the other 3 bikes as more defensive ones - i.e the melta ones would have more troops as they are more important and the flamer ones would be left how they are. other wise 1 s8 hit and you have either lost the SGt, a melta bike, a melta bike or the attack bike (since its double the natural toughness as its T 4(5).
The extra bike would take the first hit unless it was a weaker hit inwhich case it would go to the attack bike.
I think all the typhons and vindicators have your fire power sorted. 18 S8 BS4 hits and 2 Large blast S10 hits are gonna do the damage needed

I agree that low model count of bike squad is pretty dangerous, but again there is already one extra biker for the meat shield.
And yeah, typhoon and vindicator already provides more than enough fire power. But I wanted to do add something other than bikes such as a Whirlwind! It's not as powerful but it certainly adds that extra bit against horde armies.
But then thank you very much for your c&c; it does assure me that a single predator won't add much than what there is already.
