Welcome to Librarium Online!
Ok, i am completley lost in 40k and have no idea what chapter to play. I have bought an AOBR set (of course) because ive decided to play as space marines. I know how generic they are but there is something about the "defenders of mankind" that I like, plus they're the children of the emperor and that's saying something.
The main reason I decided to pick space marines, however is because they have assault marines. Im not even joking, one day i was bored and went to the games workshop website, I saw these dudes on jetpacks and thought "who the hell are these guys?!?, i want them".
Its safe to assume that I want ALOT of assault marines in my army. At least equal to the number of infantry I might have. The problem is that i have no idea what chapter to play as. Could you guys tell me a chapter that has an affinity for assault marines/jetpacks, i have yet to research completely through lexicanum and would like some real world opinions.

Hi Mr. Crowley!
I'd suggest going to the Games Workshop USA website and looking up the Blood Angels article where they make an all jump pack sample army Blood Angels are grand because they can bring Assault squads as troops! If you like the color scheme, it might be the army you've been looking for. Certainly the soaring hosts of the Blood Angels are worthy of the name 'Angels of Death'!
Good luck with your hobby, may it bring you years and decades of fun, friends, and fantasy, as it has for so many!
Emperor bless and cherish you!
I agree. If you want a lot of Assault Marines, Blood Angels are the way to go! However, don't feel restricted by just the Blood Angels chapter. You can choose any of their successor chapters listed in their codex, or even create your own if you wish to. There are literally a limitless number of possibilities.
Also, welcome to the hobby!
I pretty much did the same thing as you when returning to the game, jump troops are the way forward (in my ever so humble opinion at least).
As previous posters have said Blood Angels are the Space Marine chapter that specialises in Jump Troops, being able to take them as standard troop choices is just awesome.
Plus they have the Sanguinary Guard. Maybe not the best on a point for point basic, but the models looks superb and would make an awesome honour guard.
Good luck, have fun and welcome to the multiverse
Blood Angels definately for jump pack marines. Also, they have some lovely unique tanks and elite options. But you should know you can make up your own chapter and colour scheme and use Blood Angels rules without having to paint loads of red, apparently its not the easiest to get good results. This gives you total flexibility if you want to play as other chapters in the future - it would be hard to justify using Dark angels rules, for example, if your army was obviously Blood angels.
The AOBR set is excellent value, but not perfect. I had sixty tactical marines before it came out, none of whom have the raised arrow tactical designation on the shoulder, so the AOBR marines would look out of place in my army. You cant buy any other type of marine with this raised insignia. If this doesnt bother you there are loads of AOBR tacticals floating about out there dirt cheap - i got twenty you can have for nothing. In fact anyone can have them, just PM me.
Back to blood angels, its worth mentioning they have faster vehicles than normal marines, so your troops in transports and tanks can keep up with your jump pack assault marines to a degree. Have a gander at some of the blood angels threads.
Jager bombs. Very efficient at wiping out friend or foe.
Hi there Mr Crowley!
I found myself in a similar position to you - I knew I wanted Space Marines, but I couldn't work out which chapters. I liked the idea of jump packs, but I was also a fan of the tanks. In the end, I went for the Blood Angels, and they've been great. Assault Marines are troops choices so you can field an army of them if you wish. And the Sanguinary Guard look fantastic. Also they have a wide range of fast vehicles.
In response to praxis I agree that the AoBR set isn't perfect. The marines look a little generic and you can't customise them at all. The biggest problem is the raised Ultramarines iconography, as stated by praxis, but this is really easy to remove. Just cut it off and smooth the shoulder plate down OR buy a box of Death Company or Sang Guard and replace one of the shoulders with one of the ones out of that box. Takes a bit more converting, but its worth it.
Blood Angels are definitely a great choice if you're looking for a jump infantry army but if you don't like the scheme or the background you can always make your own chapter using the same rules.
Hope that helps!
as everyone has said previously, if you like assault marines, you need to play the blood angels, or at least a successor chapter. not only can they be picked as troops, but if deep striking is in your game plan they can do it like pros. the descent of angels rule is fantastic! plus, you cant go wrong with models like the sanguinary guard and death company. as stated before, they also have wicked fast tanks. everything is a fast vehicle, which means you could potentially have a vindicator moving 18" a turn. the only thing you have to watch out for is tanks. if you favor a assault oriented army, take lots of infernus pistols and that should do the trick. good luck!
sweet, these blood angels guys are just what im looking for. i like it how they're flawed but noble, keeps a little under-dog feel to them thanks guys for the advice and fast replies too!
