thinking of using a librarian in with my crimson fists and wondering what powers are best to have
any ideas anyone
Null Zone is pretty good. Machine curse can be useful, though it's situational. Gate can be handy, but it's kinda risky to use.
I put my librarian with an assault squad for a little extra punch. Usually he has Force dome (gives everyone a storm shield knock off without taking away their offhand weapon) and the Avenger (useful for taking out MEQs right before assault).
I also like Quickening with an epistolary, if he's going to take on HQ units. All he needs to do is land 1 hit and let the force weapon take over, and with quickening, you're sure to go first.
Null Zone simply put is an extremely useful trick. Almost every army packs some sort of invulnerable save and the power is simply DEVASTATING against Daemon armies. Other than that I like either Might of Ancients as I seem to face lots of Mech opponents or Avenger as it has a very good destructive potential.
Ask me about the Black and White Space Marine on the Black and White Bike!!!
Depends what your using him for and which army your facing, but heres some general rules:
1).Librarian with sternguard/tacticals etc. in a mech list- Avenger is good here because it essentially adds an awesome special weapon. Null zone is good because it allows you to take on invulnerables.
2).Librarian with sternguard/tacticals etc. in a drop pod list- If you have locator beacons I'd change one of the above to gate. If not use the same.
3).With a weak combat unit- first of all why aren't you usinga chaplain? Anyway, give him might of the ancients to allow him to wound on 2s, and force dome (so your survive to get to the enemy). Quickening looks useful but with some slightly bad rolls you can still fail to wound. Remember not to use both powers when you charge so you can use your force weapon
4). With a strong combat unit (terminators)- Might of the ancients and whatever you like (gate if theres locator beacons, avenger against meqs, quickening against eldar, the list goes on, null-zone if hq hunting).
5). By himself... no, never do this.
Many people swear by vortex of doom, but it is too random for me. Avenger on the other hand auto-hits and can usually get more under the template. Might of the Ancients is awesome because it makes you strength 6 AND gives you the ability to take out vehicles. If you don't like avenger (or face lots of termies) take smite every time I said avenger. Never take machine curse, its just not as effective.
Quickly runnning through wargear: If you have no combat unit then the librarian is the best hq at 100pts (if you do why aren't you taking a chaplain). Terminator armour gives him the invulnerable hes beggin for though. Epistolary is useful so you can use might and your force weapon (if you don't take episolary take 1 shooting power and null-zone, so all 3 possible uses of his power at least don't occur in the same phase). The stormbolter is good as a point filler, combi-weapons and plasma pistol usually aren't worth it (plasma because of overheat risk). I woudn't suggest taking terminator armour with a storm shield under 2k as the librarian then costs too many points. Of course, if your running him with jump-packs or bikes do so.
If my ramblings make no sense just say and I'll post that section again in a more detailed and understandable manner.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for all the advice and info. My librarian is a converted space hulk figure upgraded to epistolary and I want to try him with my assault termies. 5 who are equiped with TH/SS and 5 equiped with lightning claws. Who I usually send after HQ or vehicles. so I think I might try might of the ancients and null zone or avenger powers
