    Sure,

The regulare LR is great basic tank. You will never go wrong. The Demo is great too, but the gun has a short range. The thing is, many enemies will stop 25 inches infront of it thinking that the big gun can reach but dont forget it is an ordanance template....and the damage can hit them!

Also, I got some good advice from a BIG TIME IG user.....he said to NOT include the sponsons with the etxra guns...why you ask??? Cause if ordanance weapons are used, and if the template even touches the sponson a little bit.....it counts as a hit on the SIDE armour. VERY bad outcome as you can see. So the sponsons actually add target space. I dotn use sppnsons EXCEPT for the one (frirst) LR that I built.

    just my 2 cents!

Perssonaly, the best tank out there has to be the Leman Russ Vanguisher  I mean, look at it, it has great armour values, the AT shell and the standard shell and well worth it's points. And also I think you should get sponsons for your IG vehicles if possible because if your defending/attacking against enimies with lots of troops your sponsons could possibly kill more enimies than your ordanince.

I forgot to add that when you are using sponsons on your IG LR tanks, if you move, you can only fire 1 of your weapos, right? I think....so what is the purpose of all the other guns? Not to mention that your tanks will be target #1 to the enemy attack or defend. I guess when you look at it its all personal taste, but the 10 points or more you save on each LR you might be able to add them elsewhere....

Yeah, when moving you can only fire one weapon, but not ordnance weapons. So the side sponsons might have some use if you plan to move the tank around

When you have sponsons you just need some tactics and to look around the battle field. First of all you will have swarms of infantry to use to distract the enemys attention and bassicaly the Leman Russ are there as support vehicles. Use the infantry to shoot/assault/draw fire or whatever from the larger AT sqauds. Second have the Hellhounds advance before everyone else to quickly burn and run down enemy units. There are also alot of other ways to distract the enemy form the Leman Russ'. This way you can poisition them were ever to get line of site, never move them agian (unless of certain acts of fate) and have them kill infantry with the sponsons and larger vehicles with the battle cannon. Then when the enemy is broken have the Leman Russ' advance then or whatever you desire. You can win battles this way.

I wouldn't use sponsons, because usually you'll fire the ordnance gun, and if you move 6 " you can still fire a lascannon/heavy bolter in the hull, so you'll never need sponsons. A good LR is the vanquisher, it can have a battle honour (chance for skilled gunnery), and the AT shell can and probably will punch through any armour. Plus, if you fire an AT shell you can also fire other weapons (usually a hullmounted lascannon), making it a great tank killer. It's just a little expensive pointswise...

When you fire the AT shell it still counts as ordnance, so you could not fire both. What I am trying to say is that you can kill more enemies with sponsons. Let's say your in your Leman Russ Battle Tank/Vanguisher/Exicutioner/whatever and you come across about 10 Dark Eldar. Your weapons are the main gun (ordnance), storm bolter (2 shots) 2 heavy bolters (3 shots/6 shots total) 1 lascanon (1 shot). The Dark Eldar's toughness is 4 and save 5+. As tank commander you could fire your ordnance and kill 1/3 or if your lucky kill half if your deveation goes well. Or you could kill 9 if your good at rolling to hit, all of your non-ordnance weapons automatically penetrate their armour so you could kill them easy. Like I said you can kill more that way.

I think it states that AT shells don't count as ordnance, but I'm not completely sure. Anyway, a LR should always be positioned way back unless it's a demolisher, the battle cannon's range means you'll be able to touch every part of the battlefield, and lets be honest: against an army like SM, CSM or necrons the only thing to fear is ordnance.

What do you have when your main gun is deatroyed? Your limited sight lascannon and the co-axial storm bolter (Vanquisher type has co-axial storm bolter). To hit a target with the Lascannon most of the time you have actually expose the side or rear to enemy fire. With the storm bolter you can hit anything just that your ballistic skill isn't so good and space marines armour can make a save. But if you had sponsons you could hit more targets with a better chance of wounding.
