Hi guys. Just curious to know how people out there use their Command Squads? What configurations do you run them in and what is their role on the battlefield?
I've recently started using Sicarius and I'm trying out some various squads to run him around with. Here's one I'm using at the moment, fun to play but effectiveness varies!
2 x SS/PP
2 x SS/PW
I'm no expert on running command squads as I don't often use them, but if I were to use one I'd throw in at least one powerfist/thunderhammer so you can get attacks (if they are attached to the captain) at three different initiatives and be able to open up a tank or insta-gib and IC if you need it.

My command squad is a unit that packs some punch (in theory) with two fists, a company champion, an apothecary and a bolter guy (for a little shooting on the way to the front).
Coupled with my thunder hammer-wielding company master, this will hopefully work out well.

There is only the Emperor. He is our shield and protector.
All on bikes with 3 power weapons and a company champion, added to kor'sarro khan and outflanking. IT WINS.
2 meltaguns and 2 flamers, in a rhino. They're a swiss army knife of kill anything.
i haven't got a command squad yet but on paper it would add significant punch to my army due to the standard bearer being able to take a sacred standard would make most of the army unable to fall back. ^_^ got to love that rule.
my set up would follow the rest of the army in being shooty in nature but would still pack a punch in cc these would be put in a rhino or razorback and follow the main body of the army. if i took it to extend the army i would add a liberian onto the squad as well.

I'm making a command squad as a uber-death unit for fun. Basically so I can have a bunch of very individual-styled veterans with cool wargear in one squad, not likely to use it competitively but should be a terror on the board:
Honour Guard (Chapter Banner, Power-fist, Meltagun)
Honour Guard (Twin Lightning Claws, Melta-bombs)
Honour Guard (Power-axe, Hand Flamer, Melta-bombs)
Just doing it for an awesome looking squad to be honest.
