I recently bought a Deathstrike missile to play in a league i have joined. I have since used it twice and have not really been all that impressed with the results. I think it's the D3+3 thing that's throwing me off. Not really sure i'm using it correctly, and before i condemn the thing as a colossal waste of time and money, i'd like someone to tell me how the darn thing is supposed to be good. all of my explosions have been mediocre at best.
I also have one other question. When playing tanks in a squad of three, do they all have to target the same enemy at the same time or can they shoot at other targets in their shooting phase. If this is the case, then it is a really stupid rule.
IG mechanized/DaemonHunter army 7000 +pts.
As I'm new to 40k I can't really say anything on the Deathstrike except what I've read by others. It's not used much because of the random radius and only being a single shot, Manticore is better.
On the squadrons: read page 64 in the rulebook, shooting phase. It says that a squadron of vehicles fire its weapons on a single target.
The Deathstrike is not generally recommended because of its unreliability, also a mistake theat is very common with the deathstrike is in determining the blast size. It is D3+3" RADIUS, so the blasts diamiter will be 8 10 or 12 inches.
So the deathstrike can demolish enemy lines if it fires, which can be great fun, but like I said before not as compedative as other more reliable choices llike the manticore.

I'd consider the Deathstrike a fun model, but wouldn't personally field one outside of Apocalypse.
When I win the lottery, and assemble my mighty artillery company of doom (to sit alongside my armourerd company of doom, my infantry battalion of doom, my airborne squadron of, etc), I might pick one up, but not before I have three manticores, half a dozen basilisks, and a slack handful of medusas, collosi, griffons and so on.
Oh, and if you're fielding one in Apoc, you can forgo the normal nuclear tip, and go for Vortex instead: GW Website. All the fun of the Vortex, plus it gets a +2 to its launch roll, meaning you've a better chance of using it before it gets sniped.
I really like those Apocalypse datasheets, guess you need a lot of models and a really big table to play it though. Even so, it seems like GW are constantly releasing new detasheets, so it must be quite popular. Is it?
