Over the summer I bought Assault on Black reach and really enjoyed it. After some practice games: lots with a friend and a proper one at the local game club, I decided I'd play marines.
Initially after reading up about some of the chapters, I settled on Imperial Fists, but since got scared away by painting yellow (I've never painted anything before in my life!). After more thought, I decided on Dark Angels; the back story and lust for revenge is a really good one, and I liked the dark green. Having spent a few days trawling Lexicanum I have a basic grasp of Codex organisation, but DA don't follow it as strictly...
From a few sources I've seen Dark Angels as
Dark Green Armour
Red Gun Casing/Eyes
Boltgun bits of gun and backpack/mouth
But there's never any mention of company markings. How would I paint the markings of 3rd/4th/5th companies (i,e not Ravenwing or Deathwing?) Most Codex chapters seem to have the shoulder pad rims as Red/Green/Black respectively but not Dark Angels.
Also, are there any extra markings I should know about? My Black Reach marines have the tactical arrow so I thought of painting that in white, or should it be red? And do they use special helmet markings/stripes to show the veterans/sergeants? As a Codex chapter I guess they would, but I'd like them to look authentic :)
I also have some Terminators and don't know whether they can be Green, as if they were attached to a Battle Company; or if they have to be White.
Thanks in advance for help...this may belong in the painting section but it's still relevent here.
I don't have them in front of me, but the Imperial Armour books do detail a few Dark Angels squads, and show markings and everything on them. Now problem is, I can't remember which books, but I think its IA 5 or 6.
Do a torrent search for Imperial Armour and d/l them. They are also great reads!

In answer to your question: Terminator Armour is always in white, because only Veterans are allowed to wear it, and always come from the 1st Company (Deathwing). For this same reason, Land Speeder and Bikes are always in black, as they're always part the 2nd Company (Ravenwing).
thank you for uploading the pics, i have them on FB but, didnt know if the links would work.
Thanks very much for the picture Ravendove, that answered all my questions so rep added. Red arrows + squad number on the right pad, White Angel pattern on the left and the Company marking on the right kneepad; looks like I'm all set to finish my painting. I'll put some pictures up when I can.
