As an elite support unit which is better? I'm trying to decide which would be a better addition to a marine bike army but don't know which of these is actually better/ most versatile.
Is drop podding an Ironclad right in the middle of the enemy armour/near large numbers of weak toughness troops for a quick alpha strike better than driving a squad of sternguard over to the enemy in a twin-linked assault cannon mounted razorback better?
In a bike army? I usually skip the elite choices entirely, sometimes with the exception of a rifle Dreadnought (2x TL autocannons). What's the rest of your list look like?
Generally I use a captain (on bike), 4 bike squads with attack bikes (mix of multi, flamer and plasma teams), 2x typhoon speeders squads and two vindicators. This is normally for 1500 but I'm now thinking at 1750 and wondered if either of these options was feasable. Looking to see what else will work rather than simply take more of the same.
It all honnestly depends on what you see more of from your enemies. Armour is a pretty prevalent thing arround my parts so a squad of 10 sternguard with 6 combi-meltas in a DP would probably be a better choice. Have them combat squad upon Deepstrike and split the 6 combi's, and hopefully bust 2 tanks. I would think that the Ironclad on the other hand would be better for drawing fire away from the bigger bad'er vindicators that need to move up to get in range.

a ten man sternguard unit in a drop pod (AKA the only way to field sternguards in most peoples view) coming down on turn 1 is deadly - give them combi meltas and combat squad them as they land - thats 2 dead tanks -Yes there is a good chance they will die next turn but thats a whole turn your bikes dont get shot at.
I field this in every SM list - i usually stick my librarian with termi armour in there to vortex doom another target and make the bubble to give them all a 5+ invul save. + protect them from pshyic attacks
Now adding the lib makes them expensive but because of this mine tend to survive all be it with only 1 or 2 men and the lib by my turn 2.
It works great and is really deadly if your opponent leaves them and then you turn the special ammo on them hehehe
add one or 2 combi flamers to be used against troops if that is needed but 2bh i only use combi meltas as 2 dead tanks easily makes their points back

Apoc games (mixture of armies used): W5-D0-L1
If anything, I suggest that adding a tactical squad in there would give you a unit to camp objectives in the backfield, and would probably add a fair bit to your game. Getting a third Typhoon/Vindicator is easily worth the points, too.
