The other day, I was shopping through the GW mailorder website and came across the "collectors" page.
It had the old steel legion squad, one trooper with a GL, one trooper with a plasma gun, two commanding officers, a sergeant, a ML team, a HB team, and a lascannon team.
Since they were made for the Armageddon book, would a squad mounted in a chimera make use of a heavy weapon team?
From the advice I'm getting for my own list, I'd say no.
Thanks in advance.
Chimera mounted squads can make use of the firepoints regardless of weapon type. That said, you'd have to have the chimera stationary to fire a heavy weapon from the squad inside.

yeah its not worth keeping it still tho, use heavy weapon squads and stick them in the back somewhere. then put guardsmen or vets in the chimera and send them forward. no point in sitting still because it will be an easy target for assaulting troops. i cant tell you how many times i have had to fend off genestealers who try to assault vehicles.

I probably wouldn't drive the missile launcher around either...unless you like playing chimera/bunker style. However, I was actually impressed with how well a GL vet squad in a chimera with a Primarius Psyker does against tyranids. That amasses a lot of strength six shots. The nice thing is you always have a minimum range of 24 inches even when moving. Plus you have the frag grenade option against weaker hordes. Although it is sort of an expensive unit. ....just my 2 cents
I agree with whats been said, heavy weapons in chimeras can work but having to be still to fire really nulls the unit. My heavy weapons are on foot often sitting on an objective, my chimeras are full of meltas and flamers.

But i generally use a vet squad with an autocannon and 3 grenade launchers in a double bolter chimera. It is far from my most useful unit but I modelled the double bolter on my 1st new chimera kit just because of how it looks and I find that it does put out a decent amount of firepower.
This is even a squad where a missile launcher is as useful as an autocannon, if you take the launcher you can put out 4 frag blasts, and a lasgun while having two heavy bolters (and possibly even a heavy stubber) to fire at something else.
