Does anyone use Rough Riders, and what is everyone's general opinion on them?
I was thinking of adding a squad or two, and I love the Deathrider models from Forge World.
Forge World - DEATH KORPS OF KRIEG DEATH RIDER SQUAD
Rough Riders have their uses. They make a good counterstrike unit. Keeping them in reserve and bringing them out where needed can be very effective. The Forge World models are also extremely nice. Just remember when you bring them on, you need to be singing Bon Jovi's Wanted Dead or Alive, but with "I'm a death rider/on a mutant horse I ride/I'm wanted, dead or alive."
A small squad in a mech force can do a similar thing hiding behind your chimera wall, but their biggest problem a) they're a one-shot wonder and b) they compete for Fast Attack choices with the ever helpful Sentinels and Vendettas and Hellhounds. Which is, indeed, stiff competition.
"The sergeant major asked me what my job is. I told him it's to do what I am told. He gave me a medal. I like the Imperial Guard."
"Innocentia Probat Nihil"
Yeah the death rider models are my favourite that Forgeworld do. Only the price has so far put me off from ruining my army composition for good. If you really like them I say go for it. There are a range of situations where solid counter-chargers come in handy.

Copy, Improve, Innovate
@MC LOL, you made me laugh!
I think the forge world models are nice as well, but I like some of the dirtbike roughriders floating around out there. I can imagine ww2ish motorbikes, sort of like a bunch of Steve McQueens with explosives, ready to jump a fence or two.
I'm doing a Cadia Siege army list based on the Forge World Siege army list and I will be using them on a normal bases for that list but, for my standard guard list forget about it.
I am an Indestructible master of War.
I used to use 2 units of rough rider and loved them.
The unfortunate problem with them in 5th is the inability to equip the whole unit with carapace armour and melta bombs.
They used to smash through an armoured unit then tank hunt.
I find them to be the one hit wonder they were once, unfairly labelled.
I built a squadron with dual meltas on ogre kingdoms hunting cats, only to discover that they move 6, charge 12, rather than moving 12...so meltabombs would have worked (when they were allowed), but my unit might as well have been on foot for all the good they do. Now they collect dust on a shelf.
IG since 1999 __ DA since 2002 __ Tau since 2005 __ SoB since 2007
Brets 1997-1999 __ TK since 2009 __ Empire since 2010
I converted up 2 squads of them with shotguns, flamers, and meltabombs to hunt tanks. Then the new codex came out. (sigh...)
They're still decent in small games of 1K or less. But beyond that forget it.
