I am making a unit of 10 Deathwatch marines, which I will field as Sternguard.
Please note I want this unit to look really cool, all the models are costumed ordered, so it will not be fielded as a unit of sterngurad painted black with chapter pads. Rather each model will have its on personality. I order random bits for all the armies. So the Space wolf has the furs, Dark angel and black templar have their robes, the salamander will have the scaly cloak etc... and for torsos i order the Sang Guard bits from the Blood angels- i like the abs armour, makes them look like Spartans
Now to the equipment question.
I am planning on attaching a Librarian and using gate of infinity to teleport them around the battle field. Will the Heavy Bolters be able to shoot?
I found the old DW rules where the Heavy Bolter was assualt 3, very nice, but the sternguard HB is a normal HB. Should I give them HB?
I will give every unit a combi weapon. Any suggestions, i was thinking, 2 melta, 2 plasma, 3 flamer, and then i might substitute my HB with combis?
Now how should I equip the sgt.
Since the bolt pistol doesn't get the special ammo, (IMO is very dumb as it is a BOLTER) I was thinking a plasma pistol and a powerfist. But if I plan on not using them for assualt, since I will most likely fight them by teleporting near units and unloading with rapid fire special rounds and combis, would the powerfist be a waste or should I keep for extra security in case they do get assaulted?
Comments, suggestions and complaints always welcome
The assault 3 HB was for the old DW rules only, so you should really pass on that when fielding them as sternguard.
Yes, but go heavy on the combi-meltas. The main uses for combi-flamers and combi-plasmas are pretty well covered by special ammunition.
*maybe* give the sergeant a power fist, but he should definitely keep his bolt rifle. The scary part of sternguard is the special ammunition, and it's a strength that you really don't want to throw away.
yeah I think I will do all 10 models with combi weapons, and give the sgt a magnetized powerfist or Power weapon. Im thinking 3 combi flamers, 3 combi plasma, 4 combi melta.
On the kraken rounds, is the rapid fire ranged increased to 15 in since they shoot 30 or is rapid fire ALWAYS 12'' regardless. I know this should be in rules but since it is relative to the sternguard Im going to post it here.
Don't go with combi-plasma. It's too much of a liability!
My usually SG combi is Serg w/ PF+combi-melta, 2 Heavy Flamers, 2 combi-flamers, 5 combi-meltas. They come down in a pod and split into 2 even squads, this lets them light up a whole mess of carnage, and the split squads let them deal with any tanks/hordes they come across. Plus this way you can crack a building while filling it with beautiful fire
Yes, I have read around and it seems no one ever uses combi plasma; when compared to a mleta its just not the same. So 6 combi melta ans 4 combi flamers is what is happening. Has anyone tried using a devestator multi melta and cutting the tip off for 2 meltas for a conversion?
Also, I am still sad about my Heavy Bolters not being assualt with the supresors back in 4ed ( I think).
