    Raven Guard through BA codex

Would it be possible to use the Blood Angels codex if I don't field Shrike instead of the vanilla codex, just as it more assault orientated than vanilla.

Yes, you could do that. You could even have a jump pack captain with 2 claws and use the model, the heraldry shouldn't be too hard to file off.

You will miss having fleet though! Oh so handy

Whoah boy - first post in months!

The answer, as realitycheque stated, is "of course you can!" You could use the Space Wolves codex or even the Black Templars codex to represent the Raven Guard, if you so chose. The great thing about the Raven Guard is that they adapt to an ever-changing battlefield, and they will change what units they field and their strategies to counter new and stronger threats.

The Blood Angels codex, after Codex: Space Marines, is a fantastic option to represent your Raven Guard, especially if you're going for a fast, assault-style army. Drop Pods, Assault Marines, etc. - the BA codex works wonderfully well, and there are always ways to explain (fluffwise) the slight variations in the army (such as the Blood Angels universal rules).
