As title says. What I always like about IG is modding possibilities. It was easy to figure how to make Autocannon teams with regular 25mm, but are they legal this way?
Basically it would be a standing guardsman holding autocannon at the rear, while the barrel would be mounted on a two legged support system from IG mortar, however is it called in English. The other guardsman could be simply standing nearby on his separate 25 mm. Not a very elegant solution but simple and money saving If legal.
Many of the older Guard figures had heavy weapon teams on seperate bases. Mordian and steel legion etc would come like that in a pack.
Not many people would object to these, but technically they are not based correctly so if a blast weapon scatters and would have hit the base if it were 60mm round then you gain an advantage.
Since they are now a single model and guardsmen take a while to move around the table anyway just place them on 60mm round bases. Make them out of thick card, sand and pva glue to build up around your 25mm slottabases if you don't want to spend money on new plastic bases.

The official answer is that you're supposed to use the base that the figure originally came with. But this varies widely. My old Tallarns came with no base for the weapon and a single infantry base for the loader. So putting an autocannon + loader on a 40mm base actually means I'm being "nice".
As a result, I just model them on whatever base looks good. 40mm for my standing Missile Launcher teams, 60mm for my lascannons. My autocannons really need a 50mm base, but nobody sells them, so I'll have to make my own or squeeze them onto a 40mm base.

Most of mine didn't come with a base. I use the old metal Cadians. (GO OLD SCHOOL IG PLAYERS!!!)
I mount my gun on a hero base (the medium sized one) and the gunner and loader each on 25mm bases. I tell my opponents that if they hit the gun, loader or gunner I count it as a hit on my theoretical two wound heavy weapons team. They have never argued against that since it gives them three ways to kill my one model. In other words, if they hit the loader with a single rocket, it kills the whole team.
Thank you for your replies. I have mounted it on a rectangular base left from my catachan snipers. Looks quite good and it certainly will do in friendly games
