I finally figured out what I'm going to use as my count-as fenrisian wolves for my lone wolf models, and it started me thinking about having whole packs of them running around. It seems like they're a fairly cheap addition, even with the 15 point saga.
So, I was wondering: has anyone ever fielded a fenrisian wolf pack? Did they hold their own? If I'm putting together two of them, should I go ahead and assemble/paint 12 more? I'm talking purely for fluffy and fun games, not in a competative setting. Also, how large are the bases typically used for beasts? Is it the same base as common infantry? Or is it one of those elongated bases such as the ones used with bikes?
Just looking for a fun list, thought I'd ask before I invested too much time into it.
I would also like to hear some story's from people how used wolf packs. How have you used them did it work out...?
Not well. They have great stats for their points, but they're just too easy to tank shock off the board. They can't death or glory anything with an 11 armor or better, they're likely to fail the check, and then unlikely to regroup. It's a shame, because they are an interesting unit.
You could use the HQ that allows the wolves to use their leadership, but since they can never claim objectives, you're better off using blood claws.
"Any job worth doing, is worth doing with a powerklaw."
absolutely glorious in combat patrol (400pts game). not much else to say about them in larger games
I'm not saying they're the most competative option. I was just realizing that all my lists (which are mostly all footslogging lists) spammed long fangs and was wanting to know what else was out there.
I think this is an interesting foot list fore SW http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...ce-wolves.html. I plan to use something similar but at 2000 points. I will ad some sky claws and get rid of the Lone wolf, and tweak around a little but I think it will be interesting to play.
So while the fluff of my army tends to be counter to a competitive build (I build an "all plasma all the time" army), I stick to trying to find ways to fit more bodies on the table. In my gaming group (which are a bunch of old college buddies and all novice players), our focus is a little different than what you might find in the tourney scene. My goal isn't to build a WAAC list, but more a list that my buddies will enjoy playing against.
I'm getting the impression, though, that people rarely, if never, field fenrisian wolf packs. Yet they still seem to me to have a place as a spearhead, especially if they can draw some fire away from my long fangs for a turn or two.
Though I have a suspicion that if I press the point long enough, what I'll mostly hear is: "fenrisian wolves are never ran because there are just too many better options out there." Which I already know. What I want to hear are actual anecdotes of when people *did* field fenrisian wolves. Mostly because I'm proud of my little conversions and am looking at how I can effectively place them in my army.
And, as an aside, my best luck with sky claws (5 man squad only armed with a MotW) was to attach a wolf priest (with jump pack). Any more and the squad would start becoming too spendy. The jump packs meant I nearly always had the charge and was able to hit weak points in the back line. It's now to the point where my jump squad (when I field them) are pretty high on the priority list for my buddies to shoot down. I have a feeling, though, that when I finally convert my scouts, they'll be taking over the role that my sky claws once held, and probably do it a bit better.
Well real stories was what I hoped fore as well. It,s something about them that makes you want to use them. Maybe its just me wanting to say "realise the dogs". I'v been trying to do some thing with them as well but it's eluding me all the time...
Scouts are very nice had real fun with them playing against Tau ones but with all points we save not bringing vehicles way not both :-)
