I've been trying to build up the rest of my Catachan army, and have struggled to decide on how to build up my Veteran squad with Seargent Harker leading it. Originally, I had him with 3 flamers, and demolotions thinking I would probably infiltrate them, or outflank them if I go second, all the while having a second Veteran squad with 3 meltaguns, demos and putting them in a valkery scouting+blowing shit up first turn, or outflanking again. What I've been struggling with in particulary is should I have 2 squads with meltaguns or continue with the rout I am already pursuing. I havn't played with my army yet, so I don't really know how its all going to work out. What I'm looking for is best uses with Harker in the unit. How do you guys take him in a squad and how do you play him?
I haven't used him yet, but I'd go with 3 Grenade Launchers in a Chimera. With a Missile Launcher or Autocannon if you have spare points.
He outflanks to grab an objective, then digs in like a tick. Anyone wanting that objective has to kill the Chimera first; then they have to deal with the squad's 2+ GTG save. Which means sending a close-combat capable unit that can survive the anti-infantry firepower the squad can put out.
The downside is the unit costing 195 points.
Hmm, never thought of that. Are grenade launchers even worth it though? I know they aiin't a ton of points but are they going to be effective against the majority of the armies out there?
Grenade Launchers are great, but they are nice a versatile. The S6 krak shots can do some nice damage to light vehicles and monstrous creatures and the small blast can do a good number on hordes. It doesn't do either job extremely well, but it is some what decent at both. It's pretty much a cheap jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none deal.
Personally I don't find the unit worth the points as I prefer to specialize or I just kit out a cheap PCS with x4 Gl + Chimera
PCS's can't outflank.Personally I don't find the unit worth the points as I prefer to specialize or I just kit out a cheap PCS with x4 Gl + Chimera
The real problem is that you can outflank 5 Stormies with 2 Meltas in a Chimera for only 160 pts. They're not scoring, but they can contest things and even scout-strike armor on turn 1. They can also infiltrate and deep strike if need be. So Harker seems like a bad deal in comparison.
