Although Space marine players have just had a new codex out, are there any things about it that you would like to be changed? Do you feel any units are a bit pointless, or are there things over priced?
The Ultramaine codex was great - balance, reasonable, and overall not too bad - but between the new IG codex, the SW codex (and to a lesser extent) the BA codex it's just not so hot in general any more. Other then Bike lists, I generally play my little plastic men as Wolves now when I'm trying to be competative.
Boltguns should be assault rather than rapid fire, and devastator weapons could be a bit cheaper I think.
Jager bombs. Very efficient at wiping out friend or foe.
I find that with devastators. I want to include 5 men with 3 lascannons and multimeltas and then find it comes to the same points as a tactical squad, in which case I am better off taking the tactical squad due to it's versatility and cheapness. Instead of bolters being assualt I think that all tactical marines should also come with a bolt pistol and chainsword so you can shoot the enemy then kill them in assualt if you charge with 3 S4 attacks per model.
I do generally agree that it was a good codex and balanced, but yes compared to the other codexes you mentioned it does not seem as good. For example, Imperial Guard can have so many tanks, I think the Space marines need to improve their vehicle section and they need some more standard infantry. Apart from that I think a few tweaks here and there would make it much better.

I'd love to see the Legion of the Damned become usable. As it is they are so over-costed they are just about useless. Slow and Purposeful is a two edged sword with them as well. Yes, they can deepstrike and shoot at 100% efectiveness, but they also can hardly ever get a charge off to take advantage of their extra attacks.
For their cost, they just die too easily. Maybe if the unit had Feel No Pain on top of their 3++ save they would be worth it, of it their bolters were made more powerful, or it they had Relentless instead of SnP. But they don't, and so no one uses them, despite them having some of the *coolest* models in the range.
something i find werid is that the bikers cannot have chainswords and bolt pistols as an option. Also they didnt really define a raven guard army as an option in the new codex or even make it an option. the biker thing also links into Kor'shan khan he needs melee bikes in his army. if you buy the bikes offline they come with swords and bolt pistols but its not legal and his chapter tactics sort of suck imo it should be scout for all bikers. no special character should have a 3+ regular save they all have special gear and should by defult get a 2+ . There no point in taking normal assualt marines for 25 more points you get and extra attack per model. Master of the forge need 5 bs 5 ws.
Space marines 6 dread army Wins: 4 ties:2 Loses:7 Modified Standard nilla marines Wins:37 Ties:8 Loses 42 Daemonhunters Wins:3 Ties:0 Loses:1 Full assualt concept army wins: 6 Ties: none Loses: 2
Things that I think would be nice additions:
- Better bolters (it'd rock to have assault, and besides, they're space marines, how are they not able to move and unload? )
- Terminators a little more survivable but I think this is just cuz I love terminators XP
- bikes as a good choice rather than a "themed-list" type choice... again its a like the models thing I think
@fanatic - biker lists are a powerful army type, they're just very difficult to play. I can assure you that my biker army is one of the most fear lists amoung all the folks I play with.
@ watchwood - Haha very nice. I've never tried a biker list but I like the models and I wish they did a bit more... like the bolters on their bikes were different or osmething... be interesting to see.
Twin linked BS4 relentless bolters isn't exactly bad, especially when couple with a T5 platform that's highly mobile. The trick is supporting the properly. Vindicators in the front to absorb fire, typhoon speeders on the flanks to pop transports, etc. It's a glass hammer - powerful mojo, but fragile if the enemy can give you a good solid kick.
