Under the new ordo's rules, anybody can take inquisitorial stormies without taking any other allies.
The benefits of this are:
1. Not required to take a sergeant (IMHO sergeants are next to useless in a stormie squad, they are expensive, stormie squads die fast anyway and you don't want a CC character in a shooty squad)
2. No doctrine points are required to field them.
3. They are troops.
4. If you DO choose to take a sarge they have much better armoury options as you can basically take your pic from any of the ordo's.
5. They can take Rhinos'.
The ONLY disadvantage (okay its a rather large one but hey) is that they cannot deep strike or infiltrate, so if you arent bothered about that there is no bad points about it. Also it renders grenadiers completely useless as you are not limited to 0-3 squads either.
Of course, you have to fill out your troops choices before you can take any, so you can't just have IS armies, but I think it's a pretty major loophole that you can just bypass taking a doctrine point to get better stormies.
PS Yes I know it's cheesy to take IS without any other inquisitorial allies but it's legal.
"Remember; long, uncontrolled bursts."
I agree with you, Hell. I would rather spend 70-odd points on a squad of 10 normal guards than pay 10 points per model for +1 BS and Ld.
Now I must admit I have not used Storm Troopers yet. However, I would use them to pop up behind/in the enemy to slow them down from reaching my front lines. By taking away their Deep Strike/Infiltrate ability, I rate them as too expensive for what you are getting...***
but taking allies means that your army is not tourny legal.
you'd take allies just so you don't have to spend the doctrine on them?
why don't you just make a DeamonHunter army. then you can take as many squads of SS as you want, with out having to take any normal guard?
personally, i don't care that much for Grenadiers/Inq SS. you don't get that much for 10 points. yeah BS4 4+ save. but compared to what other armies get for about the same cost... (SoB, Tau) i think IG/DH are getting the short end of the stick.
Now you DeepStrike those guys... now we're talking.
Well I didn't know about the tourny thing, I only play friendlies. I do agree though, Stormies without DS are not so hot anyway, but these allied rules seem to have invalidated 'naders even more so. And I really would like to know why IS don't have to have sarges' but normal stormie squads do.

Whoa, wait, why are allies illegal in tournies if it specifically mentions it in the codex?

In tournaments, the only codex allowed to take allies are Codex: Deamon Hunters or Witch Hunters...
now are thoes real allies, or inducted IG/SM?Originally posted by Hugus@Sep 28 2004, 06:26

cause inducted aren't actual allies.
I personally don't like any sort of allies, and if it was up to me I would totally ban them. If you want to collect Imperial Guard, collect Imperial Guard; If you want to collect Orks, collect Orks. I don't really believe in taking a squad here, vehicle there from other armies when your own army has plenty of options in all departments...***
I would have to agree but I do have a inqusiter lord in my last chancers list because of fluffy aspected I saw in it and it is a cool model at that too.

Although I cannot be 100% sure, if my memory serves me well, GW Tournaments (read Dublin Conflict) state that only WH or DW may have allies or inducted troops...
