I had a crazy idea about fielding conscripts but the problem is that they do not seem to have much staying power with Ld5. Here are some ideas that gives them the staying power but have some flaws in it
Lord Commissar + Chenkov:
Sure this the most common idea for most conscript list, send in the next wave and wave the Lord Commissar bye bye. Ld10 is nice though
Being stubborn at Ld10 within 6" is fun too, attach getting fearless is just not fun (no plans on doing that) but its a bang for points (>_<)
Yarrick + Chenkov
Redundant stubborn, but a boost to Ld10 is cute. But please as before being fearless is not fun at all. Still a bang for points......
How to field conscripts with decent staying power to tar pit (except for walkers then they'll die like flies)
2 Regular Infantry Squads + Commissar = 135 pts.
20 Conscripts + Lord Commissar 150 pts.
That's the real problem with them. If they could take a Commissar or had Without Number for free, they'd be worth it. But as it is, they're too expensive compared to regular Infantry Squads that can take Commissars, power weapons, etc.
My thought is why bother with a commissar at all. these are designed to be throw away troops especially with chenkov. My thought is that they would be effective if you had 30 or so with send in the next wave being the an objective grabber late in the game if it was close to your table edge.
the point of these guys is to just keep throwing infantry at the enemy, who cares if they go to run away. let them die, bring them in the next round. havent used them yet but i really want to try.
Iron Hands 3000+ pts
DIY Imp. Guard 1800 pts
I don't think the recycling objective-holder strategy will work; most opponents ride in transports. Conscripts don't have frag grenades and therefore can't even glance a Rhino.

Hey, don't knock conscripts' abilities in assault. Quantity has a quality all its own. I threw a mob of 50 conscripts (with independent commie) at a flyrant under the old army book, and they eventually killed the bastard...but, like you say, the main point was to keep the TMC from munching their betters. An example would be assaulting a carnifex, they won't kill it but the carnifex will be wasted because it can't kill anything useful.
In case you were wondering, the conscripts were hitting on 5s and then wounding on 6s...and then the flyrant got a 3+ save. But there were 50 of them, andthe flyrant was only killing 3-4 a turn, so eventually....

'scripts are a flavor unit. A blob of regular infantry, taking orders from it's command squad, having and a commie... Yeah, 'scripts would still be pointless at a point-less per figure. Chenkov just burns points on a useless ability.

I've been addicted to World of Tanks lately and neglecting my IG... But it is so... much... fun!
