I don't actually play yet, and I haven't even bought the codex, but I am interested in Imperial Guard.
I was looking on GW and I am curious to know which slot does the baneblade etc. go in. Does it belong in WH40K or is it Apocalypse.
Thanks in advance,
what has been said is correct, but it is a bit of a muddle, you can use them in shall we say 'normal' games providing your opponent agrees- this comes from the very first edition of the imperial armour series, it is suggested they are used in games bigger than 2000pts. In fact they count as a 'super heavy detachment' which basically means that you can only take one but it doesn't count as a heavy support choice.
though i would recommend that if you do decide to do this, do not use the apocalypse template (especially for the baneblade/ shadowsword cannons) as they are a little too large, just use the standard ordinance template that is 5" wide- you will find out about this when you learn to play. other than that you should be fine, just remember to have the apocalypse book handy for the damage tables.
after all that start blasting away... it gets fun.
oh... welcome to the imperial guard by the way- the undoubted hammer of the emperor!
Just make a custom template. It's not like it's hard to cut out a 7" or 10" circle of paper. And yes, using the standard 5" template would be wasting a lot of value.
"The sergeant major asked me what my job is. I told him it's to do what I am told. He gave me a medal. I like the Imperial Guard."
"Innocentia Probat Nihil"
fair enough,i only suggested it partly due to me knowing folks who would cry cheese (personally the big one is very handy). And as another point before apocalypse you paid around 640pts approx for a baneblade. That was the time before apocalypse was around so you got to use two small templates instead,so really they made it more effective.
So how do people here run their Baneblades? Vanilla? 4 sponsons? Armor plates? Command tank? Commissar tank? Targeters or Lascannons? A friend of mine might get me a good deal on a Baneblade kit, and I'm wondering how most people think they run best.
in my litte experience, running them 'vanilla' is the best, if you have spare points fine have some upgrades. in most cases they will take a lot of flak but remember, they are not the bee's knee's. Mixing them with leman russes is the best as the enemy have to pick what to shoot. Overall if you treat them like a super version of the standard russ you can't go wrong, indeed in one battle there were about 3-5 baneblades (plus one or two ohter types) on the table, the one shadowsword on the opposite side killed one baneblade before being blown to bits by suprise suprise- leman russes. then mine got blased to pieces later on in the game, they did have a stormlord but it was a bit pathetic, it stood there, killed one or two infantry squads and thats about it. In the end they are useful but the standard one is the all rounder in my view, the others do sound very good, however they do not really have the flexibility that the banebadle has.
there you have it, just my few shots...
