Land Raider Crusader
Land Raider Redeemer
Have just been bought a Land Raider for Christmas and was wondering what is the best heavy support unit for a marine army. I've always used Vindi's but they've never really brought in enough to make them seem worthwhile, for me.
What does everyone else think?
Vindicators serve as much as fire magnets as they do weapons in their own right. *no one* wants 3 vehicles with demolisher cannons getting within 24" of their lines, which tends to make such units priority targets. It's actaully quite useful, depending on what the rest of your army is.
I voted for the vindicator although the AC/2LC Pred comes in a close second especially with the Blood Angel codex classing them as fast.
Quorn! - Protein for the Protein God.
Dakka Predators are so cheep, AV13 and almost certainly the most efficient use of points.
However Combi Preds are excellent transport hunters and can stay safely out of Melta range 48" is very far away.
Land Raiders have their unique abilities (massive armour, machine spirit and terminator transport) but are pretty expensive and vulnerable to Melta. Look great though and take a hell of a lot of firepower to bring down.
All in all it depends on your list. If you have Melta Speeders/Attack Bikes you could easily find a use for the longer range choices like a Predator/Devastators. If you have loads of Typhoon Speeders though, you could consider the shorter ranged but more powerful vehicles like Crusader/Vindicator.
I have seen the Thunderfire Cannon do an intense amount of damage in the league I'm in.
Vindicators are awesome - both for the sheer amount of firepower they can produce (especially for BA cos they're fast) and for the fact that they are magnets for all enemy fire (as mentioned by watchwood), which lets the rest of your army get on with the job.
Blood Angels (W-D-L) : 6-1-2
In my opinion it's definitely the vindicators. For the same reasons mentioned above. Has anyone ever used them on tyranid warriors (just watch and laugh)?
Tyranid warriors, Tau battlesuits, just about any unit of multiwound models with T5 or less will *hate* Vindicators.
I use them also for their multi-roll. The template alows them to deal with hordes, power armour, termie armour. Its also good at taking down land speeder squadrens as str 5 still hurts. Most of all they are a good way of dealing with av14 such as land raiders and russ's. however where they don't shine is monstrous creatures as it can only deal one wound unlike predators. For this reason bring some missle launchers or lasacannons. As mentionion before land speeder typhoons work well with vindicators. Mainly as they are multi-roll like the vindicator and also to counter the vindis weakness of lots of monstrous creatures. The vindicator absorbs the fire whilst the typhoons can do there job poping transports so you can start laying down templates. And just to be mean stick in a librarian with null zone on a bike to make that str 10 template even more deadlier.
Nothing more funny than 3 inquisitors with sanctify when facing deamons. They cant do anything while you stand in front of them having a tee break.
Vindicator rules, but I had to vote Dakka Pred only because of the value for points...
