What would you give your vet sgt? If setup for the rest of the squad is:
6x shotguns (I understand demo charge doesn't prevent one taking shotgun as well?)
They will ride in Vendetta.
First yes you can take the shotgun and demo charge. As for your main question. Well for me, I always, move, drop, then shoot so I would go for a shotgun so you get the two shots, cause you can't assault after disembarking then. If you're gonna stick in the Vendetta for a turn and drop the next turn before the Vendetta's movement, then I would say take the pistol ccw combination for the extra attack in combat.
Just my two cents. You'll probably get better and more detailed advice from everyone else.

If they all have melta bombs, then that's going to be what they are using in assaults because the whole point of this squad is to assault multiple enemy tanks and destroy them with melta bombs, or to shoot into the enemy at close range with flamers and a demo charge. This would mean that while the shotgun has 2 shots (which is what veterans are good at with their BS4) a close combat weapon would add 1 attack in close combat (which is what guard are bad at with their WS3.)
Its really up to you, but I use these squads on a regular basis and I would always take lasguns over shotguns (unless the demo charge squad had meltas, even then I would tanke a shotgun on the sgt.)
why not take it as a special weapon squad, go for 3 flamers and 3 meltas.
Thanks guys Made my sgt with shotgun. If it will not work out good, I have a plenty of sgts with laspistol and chainsword to swap.
