So i am working on a pedro list but im trying to think of ways to this that will be fun and maybe a little different. I was thinking razors with maybe 6 stern gaurd but then i started thinking what about maxing the units then combat squading them. so three groups have a razor and then buy three 5 man tac squads to unlock more razors so all the sterngaurd board them.
Have you seen that done before? I think the 15 tacs could hold the home objective and let the stern become MVPs. Though that is a lot of points to drop so i am almost thinking just taking three groups of 6 sterngaurd may be the better option just to save points and place elsewhere.
Pedro and sternies is a very good combo, but you can hardly afford leaving your tacs behind at your home base doing pretty much nothing.
If you are willing to spend the points on maxing out the sternguard squads, you might as well give them a rhino. With their special ammo you want them to be shooting most of the game and rhino will allow for that while razorbacks don't. Be carfull though. Sternies can be quite expensive and they have to be supported by the other elements of your list.
I am thinking taking three groups of 6 sterngaurd veterans in a razorback with twinlinked lascannons is the better idea because it will help in my anti tanks which with three maxed troops is getting hard to fit. then taking tac squads in groups of 5 for more razors also could help a bit with landspeeders to bring up some slack. How does that sound ?
Looks better already.
Personally, I prefer to give the sternies las/plas backs over TL las, since its suits their frontline role better in my lists. just remember to have your sternies shooting a maximum of the time. That is what they need to do.
Speeders are very versatile and always come in handy. HF/MM speeders have a wide variety of roles and Typhoon speeders are great for adding firesupport to your list.
Taking 5 men tacs with razorbacks is the way to go if you want to field as many razorbacks as you possibly can. Add a PW of PF to the sarge though along with a combi weapon if points allow so the tacs have something of a special weapon.
Something cheeky a mate of mine uses is to field full Tac squads with Razorbacks (allowed) then combat squad the Tac squads into a defensive element with the heavy weapon and the assault element with sergeant in the transport. The heavy weapon squad holds objectives or takes on enemy heavy-hitters, and if you give the assault unit a melta and the sergeant powerfist and combi-melta, you're onto a winner. Sterns in Razors with combi-meltas follow on and you can take on specialist shooters like Tau, assault maniacs like Eldar and Ork-like hordes. You could supply the assault elements with Heavy Bolter Razors to help shoot in your assaults. That might help you make your decision as to what to arm them with. Either Predators or additional Razors with twin-las would complete the ensemble. Even throwing Tac squads at the enemy as a speed bump would mean several extra rounds of shooting for your Sterns, keeping them alive for a bit longer!
This sort of thing is ideal because you get loads of scorers, don't give too many kill-points away (you don't need to combat squad the Tacs, and the Razors can double as pill-boxes if you're on the defensive) and you have a viable assault army with a decent defensive force. Add a Librarian for fun if you have the points and just sit back and enjoy the moans about "easy bastard marine players".
Another Idea i was thinking is keep maxed sterngaurds with the tyhpoon speeders but use scouts in groups of 5 to spam missile launchers and infiltrate into cover/objectives and make the opponents scramble for the snipers or worry about whats comming up the center. How does that strat sound?
Personally I'd rather have the extra 17% chance of hitting - but then I don't upgrade my RBs as they're for transport first and then extra firepower when I arrive. Putting a big gun on them makes them a target, I'd rather have two plain RBs and a predator than two RBs with my anti tank on. AV11 doesn't really cut the mustard for a tank performing dual roles.Originally Posted by Ravendove
