Hi, I have a Ultramarines army and I need help beating my brothers Dark Eldar army. My army has:
1 Commander with power sword and bolter
5 Regular Terminators with 1 Flamer and Sergant
10 man Tactical Squad with Flamer, Missile Launcher and Sergant
5 man Scout squad with Sinpers and 1 heavy bolter
1 Landspeeder with Muilt-Melta
My Brother has:
1 Archon with Agonsier and splinter pistol
A retuine of 6 Incubi and 2 assult weapons and a raider transport
10 man warrior squad with 2 dark lances
10 man warrior squad with 2 dark lances
Can anyone give me some advice?
With him using 5 Dark Lances I am will to bet that your Land speeder never lasts past turn 1 and he really doesnt have anything you need the multi melta for except for the talos. I would suggest dropping the melti melta for a heavy bolter and using those points
to change the flamer on the terminator to an assault cannon. This will give you more shots and chances to kill his Archonn and retinue (these guys will rule you in H2H). The talos is another big problem best delt with at range (assault cannon works great here). After his HQ is reduced to a manageable size the assault will be in your favor and you can teach those pointy ears what space marines are all about.
Grab yourself a whirlwind. You hide it behind terrain, don't let any of the darklances near it, and you'll kick some ass.
I would also recomend some more heavy bolters. Heavy bolter fire is great against the lightly armored armys (Dark Eldar, IG, etc..), and they tend to be rather cheap.
Also, invest in an assault squad and a dreadnought. The covering fire from the dread is great (and will get better when the new codex comes out), and the assault squad will let you cover some ground more quickly, and they rock in close combat.
Massed firepower is the way to go. Dark Eldar are very frail, take away their mobility and they're dead. Don't take vehicles if possible because Dark Lances will rip through them like rice papaer. Get plenty of Boltguns and Heavy Bolters, maybe a Lascannon or two to make sure the Raider doesn't make it past Turn 2. Don't go towards them, just stand and shoot. Prioritise the Archon and the Talos becasue you really don't want them coming into base-to-base with your models.

Is a Dreadnought with assult cannon and power fist okay? and are the scouts with sinpers good?
Scouts snipers are great (get five more)
dreds assault cannon will weaking a squad b4 u get into hand 2 hand
in term squad get two assault cannons (new term rules)
lose flame in tac squad get plasma gun
get heavy support stand back and shoot (maybe a dev squad, two plasma cannons and two heavy bolters, get a few space marine meat sheild to protect heavy wepons guys) (ya dev squad now, then a whirlwind)
another tactical squad please (i want to say get a plasma cannon but u need to be DA ) another missle and plasma gun
replace commander with chaplin
last thing: get a three speeder squad of tornados (new rules, land speeder variants can be feilded in squad) ( all of them with heavy bolters 'n' assault cannon)(warriors will die instantly)(keep speeders moving 6inch or more so he has to role 6's to hit)
THESE ARE JUST SUGGESTIONS SO DO WHAT U WANT

Several people gave some good advice that can help you out. There is no reason you need to purchase all those models to have a good game and be competitive.

just remember your basic weapon will blast his troops to atoms, target the raider and Talos first, then let gis HQ walk over to field towards you and make him bleed for every cm on the boardssniper are very usefull for pinning his troops as it means they won't be shooting at you for his next turn.Is a Dreadnought with assult cannon and power fist okay? and are the scouts with sinpers good?
Dreds are okay though they won't live long, you could try one with an autocannon instead of the assault
