Good morning fellow gamers
With my mother's love for the Toys For Tots, and her recent passing last year, I'm starting I project that I'm sure she would approve.
Marines which are Marines XD
While I bang my head for paint schemes, I'm posting for advice for my force. I'd like it to be an all~comers list, as others at the local GW store collect armies like fiends. I'm aiming for a 1000pt list, a 1500pt list, and a 2000pt list.
Are there any "must haves", and are there choices I shouldn't bother with?
Thank you in advance.
Pick a codex, first and foremost. We can go from there.
And if you're looking for an innovative colour scheme...perhaps painting your marines in camoflage?
Get a terminator Librarian or Chaplain for first HQ choice and then paint yourself two full ten-man squads of Tactical marines with Rhino/Razorback for each squad. That much alone will keep you in work for a week or two while you are planning on how to boost the list up to full 1000 points
Revenant Moon Necrons: (W/L/D) 0/1/0 (6th edition: 13/2/2)(5th edition: 14/6/4)(3rd edition Codex: 16/4/7)
XIX Legion: (W/L/D) 0/0/0 (5th edition: 14/12/2)(5th edition Codex: 4/3/0)
Black Legion: (W/L/D) 1/0/0 (6th edition: 2/3/0)
Something Wicked... Reikwald Beastmen: (W/L/D) 10/4/1
like polaria said getting 2 tactical squads with rhinos would be the best idea! A nice strong way to start any marine army. Also like watchwood said, choosing a codex would be a great idea as well.
From here you should be able to make a good start building your marine force. Generally the rest is all subjective. Some people like vindicators, others don't etc... the list is endless. It's all about learning how you enjoy playing and building an army thats personal. Good Luck
My homage to my time spent at Libararium Online:
Nice to have you on board marine!
Like watchwood said, pick the codex first and then we can talk army composition.
I'm such a boob, as I always forget the important part!
I'm going from the "vanilla" codex, as I'm quite "in love" with everything in the book
if i were you then i would pick a special character and base your army around him.
vulkan hestan is popular and then you just get a salamender army with melt, flamer and thunder hammers.
pedro kantor, and then get a bucket load of dternguyard and special bolter them to death.
kahn and use loads of bikes and outflanking units
this would be a fun way to collect snd give you a reasonably competetive army.
Special characters are nice, but even a basic librarian can get you a long way and he's a lot cheaper than the special characters.
Vanilla marines are more proficient in shooting. Start with a solid core of ranged units and then you can add to it as you see fit.
Start out with two full tac squads. They need a transport too. Never buy the rhino boxed kit though. Buy the razorback kit, magnetise and you can use it as both a razorback and a rhino. Same thing with the predator kit. magnetise the side doors and top hatch and you can choose again between a pred or a rhino

Remember when you buy your transports to always get Razorbacks rather than rhinos. By not gluing down the top hatch you can easily switch between the two as the Razorback kit has all the parts for both. There also a lot of tutorials online to show you how to magnetized the turret weapons. This will allow you more versatility with lists and help you get the most out of the money you spend.
Thanks for the replies.
I'll keep magnets in mind for my tanks. I currently have an unopened rhino and razorback, so maybe I'll practice with them...
I was thinking on the direction my force will go, and would like to see your opinions.
"Marines" as "Marines"
1. As my HQ choices, I wanted to use a captain and a chaplain. I could also go for two chaplains. Thoughts?
2. I was going to base my list as a core of tactical marines with some squad types in transports for a "rush up there" support. Thoughts?
3. Looking at 1 or 2 scout squads, but I'm unsure how to equip them. Was going for a sniper team (camo cloaks) with either a ML or a HB with hellfire shells. Thoughts?
4. Was also going to include biker squads to represent light anti~troops/tank vehicles. Thoughts?
These are my ideas so far, as I'm still deciding on what else to include in this little project of mine.
Thanks in advance.
