OK so first off i have never really done this before so if a ask a stupid question don't get mad.
1) what size earth magnets would i need that i could use for the arms, weapons, and backpack.
2) i am going to get one of those little drills to use to get the magnets into the space marine.
I generally use 1/16" dia. x 1/32" thick for holding weapons into arms, 1/8" dia. x 1/16" thick for the torso, and 1/8" dia. x 1/32" thick for arms. I'll post some pictures when I find my camera.
The tool you are looking for is called a pin vise, and you might be able to find something at a local hobby shop.
Ok, finally managed to get some pictures taken of some of the guys I magnetized.
First pic is the magnets I used. From left to right they are 1/8" dia. x 1/16", 1/8" dia. x 1/32", and 1/16" dia. x 1/32".
I color coded the magnets for ease of identification, as I didn't include any sort of scale with that pic.
Here is a marine I magnetized. His arms are glued on, but his backpack and weapons are interchangeable.
As a tac squad plasma guy
As an assault squad flamer guy
As a devastator squad sgt.
The same idea applies to larger ideas, such as the devastators themselves.
The tool on top is a small battery powered drill with a 1/8" drill bit. The bottom tool is a pin vice with a 1/16" drill bit. These bits make perfect sized holes for the magnets to sit in to.
