Currently I have the typical setup of a crapton of long fangs with missile launchers, which work out awesome for meq or worse infantry and vehicles. I am currently wondering if it may be worthwhile to field a squad of 5 long fangs with plasma cannons. In the game store I play at two of the opponents I play often are very terminator heavy, one being a deathwing army, the other being a custom chapter but he usually fields 2 squads of 10 termies each. It won't help quite as much against TH/SS ones, but do people think it would be worthwhile for the additional hurt it would bring the ranged termies and LC assault termies? The only real problem I see with it is that when either of them field a land raider the plasma cannons will be of rather limited use on that compared to missile launchers, which can at least glance its front armor.
The other option would be to just mix a couple PCs into the regular LF squads, and make use of the split fire ability when needed.
My biggest problem with plasma weapons in general is fear of my guys toasting themselves. Its hard to get past that.True, that is definitely an option. The other option would be to just mix a couple PCs into the regular LF squads, and make use of the split fire ability when needed.
I find plasmaguns a liability due to the multishot, but I only lose 1 plasmacannon dude in roughly every 3 games.
As for frag/krak missiles I'd rather get one 2+ instakill than 2-4 4+ wounds and them having to fail a save.
