Hi all. I live out in the boonies well over 2 1/2 hours from any GW store that will be receiving the box of goodies for the GKs. I was curious if I preordered:
2 Termie Boxs
2 GK Squads
Roughly what would be my point total? I want to be able to play at 1850 but if I have to buy like 3 or 4 boxes of each it will be way to expensive. Thanks for your help!
Armies: 40k: Imperial Guard, Orks Fantasy: Skaven
If you're not willing to spend the money you're not going to be able to create an army which is very versatile and/or effective for any army, race or game system. That's the way it was designed.
“The ultimate philosophical question, “Am I human or machine” is answered by many people, “I don’t care, as long as I am”

One option is to buy the older Grey Knight models on ebay, though even that isn't guaranteed to be much cheaper. My general rule of thumb is to double your points totals to get the cost for the army. Thus, your 1850 list is going to cost about $350-$370 if you were to buy all new models.
Record: Win - Loss - Draw: Hive Fleet Pandora (New) 32-6-6 Space Wolf 7th Co. 52-11-6
Blood Angels 12-4-2 Daemonhunters 20-8-3
Imperial Guards 12-5-2 Daemons 8-3-2
You ideally want a Grand Master to lead the army to confer either scout or scoring on the dreadknights.
Also I playtested the leaked list and I found venerable dreadnoughts with two twin-linked autocannons and psy-bolt ammunition to be absolutely devastating to enemy vehicles. Four S8 shots a turn hitting on 2+ with a re-roll is a nasty prospect that can even take out AV14.

Basically life sucks, there is only war and you're probably gonna get eaten by Tyranids, have fun.
