I fought this battle today at out local club. It was really good fun, I had a great time with it. Since I don't know how many people here check the batrep thread and it has lots of nice pics of my now mostly-painted Krieg army I figured I'd shamelessly pimp it out here. Hopefully it's interesting for some of you guys, it's too bad I don't have any real Death Riders, they were the only thing I proxied and they were quite the heroes!
It's really good fun to use a different list. One of the reasons why I really love the guard is that these semi-official alternative lists exist that let you explore a different feel to what the regular codex offers. Going toe to toe with Orks in close combat was pretty weird but a lot of fun, and didn't work out quite as horribly as it might have.

Why did you assault the Orks? That's IG no-no #1.

Well using the Krieg list changes the equation a bit. Die Hards makes them stubborn in close combat while bayonet drills gives them that +1 WS which makes Orks a fair bit weaker if you counter-charge them.
My stubborn men were still locked in combat so I couldn't shoot the Orks and assaulting them gave me +1 attack, robbed the Orks of it and also prevented their furious charge. I had also some buried power fists in a couple of the command squads so it wasn't one-sided.
Assaulting Ghazghul was probably a bad idea. I was counting on the Medusa shot taking out a good number of his Nobs but it scattered and took out one of my own squads instead. At that point I was hopelessly out of position and would have been multi-assaulted anyway so I figured I'd try and make the best of it.
If I had to do it again I'd have still assaulted but I'd have thrown everything into the central combat around the Demolisher and sacrificed the remnants of the squad on the far right. If I could have broken that squad on my charge (highly likely) I'd have been able to polish off the far right squad too and netted at least one, if not two objectives. By spreading the squads I only managed to end up in an attritional combat that left us both pretty depleted.
If the Death Riders had arrived on turn 3 rather than 4 and if the Medusa hadn't have caused so much damage with friendly fire I think I'd have broken Ghazzy's squad on the charge too. It'd have been 30 infantry, a PCS with a power fist and 6 death riders including the ridemaster. Nobs are alright but so many attacks would have drowned them.
