I haven't got my hands on a codex, but from what I've heard, all the assasins are SWEET. Too sweet in fact - i cant decide which to choose. I'm going to have paladins and a ven dread so I only have 1 elite choice to use. As such, I'm looking for your opinions on which assasin is the best against all comers. From what I see, the assasins are:
Vindicare: epic sniper, amazing special ammos, kill pretty much any model you choose
Eversor: CC monster, amazing killyness at close range
Culexus: pretty much wwipe psykers off the board
Callidus: shape-shifting, instant-deathing character killer of doom

The problem with assassins is that they're A: Expensive and B: Fragile. That said, of them, the Eversor's role is filled by the Paladins, and the Culexes still isn't particularly useful unless you know you're facing an army with a lot of Psykers - namely GK's, but also quad priest Wolves and Thousand Sons, but that's about it. Of the other two, it depends on who you usually face. If you face units like Long Fangs or Devestators a lot, the Callidus can ruin their day (against IC's she's actually less awesome due to the fact that they tend to have good invul saves). The Vindicare, however, can reliably pop transports and pick off special models in units that are on foot like, say, PK Nobs or Sanguinary Priests
Basically, it comes down to your local metagame..

I like the vindicare most all those special ammunitions is really awesome 4D6 armour pen anyone? oh yeah! and exactly as stradius says it's really nice to take out special models and special weapons in squads. but the callidus is also nice...
I totally agree with A.T. here. The only assassin that has been improved in this version is the Vindicare, and is also the only one I would take today. Before I always used the Callidus, much because of the 6" pre game repositioning of an enemy unit, and with her old Phase Blade she ignored both armour saves and invulnerable saves and could charge the turn she made her deep strike (without scatter).
I will try out the new Vindicare for a few games, but my hunch is that he will most likely be shot early or blocked by other means.

Really sad the Eversor doesn't explode anymore, i used to love him and now i'm just not sure ...
Btw i'm really tired atm but what's keeping someone to make the assassin join a unit ?
Because assassins are infantry not 'independent' characters so they can't join units unfortunatly .
I love the eversor the most but I am still trying to think of how he could get across the table without getting shot.
I'd give up the assasins are grossly overcosted for what they can do -take the points you were gonna spend on them and buy a bunch of deathcults in the end they are the only assasin in the codex worth thier cost
Tyranid player thinking of Converting... Can you still only take one Assassin and as I am gathering the vindicator is the only one worth his points???
