I would like to include Dante and a unit of Sanguinary Guard in my army, but I really am not a fan of the pretty boy gold armor. I take one look at it and can't help but shake my head at the stupidity of those shiny golden nipples. I've been thinking about it, and I would like to instead paint Dante and his Sanguinary Guard in red, with a good deal of golden bits. The fluff technically states that these units wear golden armor, but can you think of justification to depict them in red? Right now the only thing I can think of is this alternate fluff storyline I tried to develop a while back that focuses on the Emperor's death, the near-destruction of the Imperium, and its attempts to scratch and claw its way back to primacy. Anyway, please let me know what you think. Thanks in advance!
Use them as a counts-as for a BA descendant chapter? That's the obvious and easiest way to do it. I know it says in the codex that at least 1 other chapter uses non-standard colours for it's SG and DC units.
In the blood angels codex on the colored page that depicts the different color schemes (can't remember the number) there is a profile of a drawn sanguinary guard colored white, it has no title and I have no idea what the back story on that would be, but if you were able to achieve a clean white finish on the armor I think, nipples or not, it would look sexy on them.
I'm thinking about painting them white for my army with the flesh tearers theme
I should have mentioned, the models need to stay Blood Angels, as I have already repainted three assault squads (they used to be a successor chapter). Unfortunately, the Sanguinary Guard painted in white happen to be from a successor chapter.
Just because their armour is gold in the fluff and painted that way in codex, doesn't mean you can't have them running around painted pink with green dots.
It's your army. Your Models. Your Money. Paint it how you want and make up the story.
I try to think of the 40k background as no different from the Forgotten Realms, Shadowrun or any other fictional campaign setting. Something to use as a base, but if something minor is conflicting with what I want to do for an army then I ignore it and excise it from that particular forces personal canon. Like selfleader said, It's your army. Your Models. Your Money. Paint it how you want and don't let the official canon stop you from doing so.
and you can file of the nipples.
Don´t mess with the dicegod
If you want to go crazy with your dante, you can always pierce his nipples and attach a whip too it and then you've got yourself a dante with an extra sort of attack: The Nipplewhip!!
