I'm starting a SW army and the battleforce sounds like a good idea, expekt I will not use the scouts (I think). So is the SW battleforce good?
You get 10 Grey Hunters and 10 Blood Claws, but can't you make 20 Grey Hunters instead?
You can, they're really the same models.
Wolf Scouts are pretty powerful though, if you set them up right. Don't write them off without giving them a go, eh?
Space Wolves (Under Construction) | Circle of Orboros (Under Construction)
i have bought 3 of the wolf battleforces, you get so many bits and parts that really you need to buy a normal marine battlforce to maximise the ammount of stuff you can build. when i started my own wolves i had two space marine battle forces and one wolf battleforce and from that i got 50 gray hunters 5 wolf guard as well as 2 charectors, with the additon of a couple more wolf battleforces i have made 10 skyclaws 4 more wolf guard a worlf lord and 15 blood claws with parts left over to make 11 swift claws and of course the drop pods they are a better deal i think than rhinos.
wolf scouts are very good especially with the wargear they are able to take, the last thing a unit of fire warriors is going to expect is a 10 scouts charing in from behind them with two power weapons, mark of the wulfen and a special weapon! or give them sniper rifles and ws4 scouts hurt a lot of things.
Hey everyone, been toying around with starting Space Wolves myself and was wondering this exact question so I'm glad there's a topic. Had a few more questions though.
So I know the Battleforce can give you 20 troops of either Grey Hunters or Blood Claws or both. My question is what's the difference between the models that distinguishes them? Is it the accessories or the paint job or what?
The set is a great value if you do the math but I don't know if I'd use a Drop Pod. What unit are they most useful with? A Dreadnought?
I've seen people say one of the benefits of Wolf Scouts being that they can be taken as Elites, why is this?
Would there be any reason to buy the Space Marines codex? The Space Wolves one seems to have all the necessary rules and units in it.
If there's already answers to these questions just point me to the right thread. It's gonna be a while before I start, but the army has just called to me and I can't get them out of my head. I might be popping in a bit more.

between blood claws and gray hunters there is no difference model wise but they do have a differnt paint scheme, red for gray hunters yellow for blood claws.
drop pods can be usefull if you take wolf guard terminators, or even if you put in a 10 man gray hunter squad with two melta guns in fact if it can have a drop pod it in some way is going to be usefull.
wolf scouts are not the rookies of the chapter they are vetrans who just like to be on their own, they have a lot more wargear options plus the behind enemy lines rule as well as normal marine stats.
you need the space wolves codex and the main rule book, thats all.
hope that helps.
Thank you, that does help a lot. I'd find a way to use a drop pod.
For the Scouts though, I wasn't asking they're categorized as Elites, but them being in the Elite spot is a plus, rather than them being in Troops.
Got the Space Wolves Battleforce yesterday, and wow, that's a lot of options! Almost 30 different heads for 5 bodies, I love it. I'm used to Eldar where the variety comes between units but not really within a unit, so it's a bit overwhelming to see all those bits. Really looking forward to building some squads though, it's gonna be a lot of fun.
good luck with it, take a look at the wolf guard terminators one day there are enougth bits in that to get more than 5 terminators provided you have some other terminators lying around
Yea I'm not trying to actually start playing the army any time soon, I wanted to start Space Wolves as more of a modeling and painting exercize, try and get my creativity flowing and painting better. I will eventually start playing though, and I'll be looking for a Rune Priest, Terminators, and a Devastator/Long Fangs squad to get next. I'll probably just build two squads of Grey Hunters with this box as I feel no need for Blood Claws quite yet but I'm still wide open.
