Hey guys I was building a 2000 point army from the new codex today and have become stuck at a conudrum. It's basically a termi footslogging army. 2 full units of termis with psycannons and one 5 man paladin squad with psycannons and a GM with a psycannon.. Also have 2 psyrifle dreads for some AT and long range support. This is where I came to my questions. I wanted to give my termis and little more long range support/suppressive fire and have narrowed my choices down to 3 options:
1. Vindicare Assassin
2.Techmarine with an Orbital Strike Relay
3. Techmarine with a Conversion Beamer
All 3 have their pros and cons so I wanted to see if any of you had an opinion. Vindi seems useful for knocking out any champs that could be a worry for my termis such as those with powerfists. Also would help taking out transports to free up my dreads for harder targets but seems pretty limited beyond that. The tech with OSR has a ton of potential for taking out large groups of hard targets or vehicles but I'm concerned with the OSR's reliability and hoping to hear from those that have used it. The Tech with CB sounds like a good compromise between the two especially if I use servo-skulls wisely to make the spread more accurate.
Chime in guys! I don't think I'm going to come to a comfortable conclusion myself. Let me hear your experiences. Also if you think all 3 choices are rubbish I'd be open to other suggestions.
If those are the 3 choices you are open to, I would take the Assassin. Very reliable long range anti-infrantry/anti-armour capabilities. It won't win games, but if you play conservatively you can make some interesting plays. For example taking out an enemy champion before your squad assaults or eliminating a transport in a place that chokes your enemy's movement.
Tau my love! You are back!
I'm open to anything actually. Considered just taking a 3rd psyrifle dread but wanted something different for long range support for my termis. Those were the 3 options that I found but am open to something different I may have overlooked.
Well, a third psyrifle dread would actually be the best choice, I just personally try stay away from spamming a particular unit. Its more fun to have variety, and I believe that was your thought as well. There is also the option of a 5 man interceptor squad with psycannon and daemon hammer for 150 points. Both of these choices have more durability and reliability than the assassin. In the end, the choice you make most likely will not affect the majority of your games so it all comes down to personal preference.
Tau my love! You are back!
vindi is like a kick in the nuts to an opponent.
the 4d6+3 armour pen really hurts tanks, and the +1 for AP1 doesnt hurt either. the fact that it can outflanks and do it with a pistol makes it worse, and the idea of making lysander a marine in 1 shot makes me giggle like a girl. or better, turning eldrad into a ball of meat.
