Terminator army, what choices are there?

    Hi there

So recently i got my hands on a bunch of older plastic terminators

13 of them. I also got 7 black reach terminators laying around.

I am building a blood angels army, but every time i try to build a list with terminators in i wander off and get my jump pack guys in instead, so i got thinking if i can build something else, with another codex.

Generally i could paint them in the same scheme as my BA and do the count-as dance, color isnt everything after all. But what choices do i have? if i want a terminator army (thus can score, and use as troops)

Deathwing - A lot of Cyclones, cheap land speeders and deathwing assault

Space Wolves - haven't really studied them a lot..
Grey Hunters - new, flashy.. everyone is on the bandwagon!

Is there any choice i missed? Do you play a terminator based army? does it work, and with what codex do you use it with?

Dark Angels, Space Wolves, and Grey Knights all do terminators as troop choices. If the IA supplements are allowed there's a character in one of the Badab War books that lets termines and assault termies be scoring for Vanilla armies as well.

Rules-wise, DA and GK are the best codexes for it. If you're gunna do the codex shuffle though, you should probably paint them in the colours of a homebrew chapter, though. There are folks around who have issues with blatant codex whoring.

Dark Angels ftw! That's all i'm gonna say. But if you do go down that route you'll need to make your own Belial HQ to get Termies as troops and always take a Termie Chaplain with some lightning claw and thunder hammer guys.

Cant you say something more Zahariel

I have been looking at various Dark Angel list, and to keep the focus on Deathwing most armies looks like
4x Terminator groups with various weapons say 2th/ss, 1 Claws, 1 Chainfist 1 cyclone missile launcher
this followed by 3 of those crazy well priced land speeders with MM and Cyclone.

Is this the norm? i mean, is there any decent variations to a deathwing or is this how they are run?
Maybe its hard to get variation in a terminator army anyways at say 1500/1750 points tho.

I run a 1500 pt DA list with
    -Belial
    -Terminator librarian
-4x terminator squad all equiped with TH/SS and in each squad a Cyclone.
    -Bike squadron with Attack Bike(Multi-melta)

And cause belial is in it 1 squad gets a apothecary.
IMO i like this as the best deathwing list because the TH/SS combination gives you a high survivabilty and the bike squad is mainly chosen as an anti tank squad.

There's a bunch of variations that work. Generally involving a bunch of TH/SS termies, cyclone launchers, and some bikers for mobile melta support. Here's what I'd run at 1750:

    Belial
Deathwing Squad, 5x Hammer/Shields, Cyclone Launcher
Deathwing Squad, 5x Hammer/Shields, Cyclone Launcher
Deathwing Squad, 5x Hammer/Shields, Cyclone Launcher
Deathwing Squad, 5x Hammer/Shields, Cyclone Launcher
Deathwing Squad, 5x Hammer/Shields, Cyclone Launcher
Ravenwing Squadron, 2x Meltaguns, Meltabombs, MM Attack Bike
Ravenwing Squadron, 2x Meltaguns, Meltabombs, MM Attack Bike
Ravenwing Squadron, 2x Meltaguns, Meltabombs, MM Attack Bike
    =1750

A librarian with the dark angels seems ok, with the unlimited range hood and all.

But i might do them as a Wing.. to my DIY Blood Angel chapter. That is, paint them in a totally different scheme, weave in to my own story
why they do so. And thus i can use all the terminators with the dark angels.. or if i want to field them with my Blood Angels, i just do so as well.

Cause wasting money isn't in my nature, i wont paint them in dark angels color just to use them with those, if i now end up having two marine armies.

Yep the rolls i have for the template boom are always good don't know how that keeps happening but i don't mind it. But i'm gonna try a termi chap in my next battle cause i like the idea of rerolling missed TH hits.

Nooooooooo... You use his old rules too - you each roll D6, add your leadership and you have to BEAT the opponent.
unfortunately, DA Libbys are LD9. Well, the vast majority of opponent psykers are LD10. That's... what, 10/36 chance of being successful. or, less than 1/3. bit pricy at 200 (off the top of my head for one with t/armour). and their powers REALLY suck.
