Well hello all.
I have been playing against a tau player and I must say I feel like for the most part I am getting stomped . . . I currently have 4 squads of 5 initiates with bolters 2 to 3 neophytes with bolt pistols and cc weapons, and two squads of 10 initiates with bolt pistols and cc and bolter mix and a rocket launcher, 1 squad of terminators, emperor's champ, chaplain, castilian with command squad, a razorback, and a land raider crusader. So should i beef up my squads more or try to go more mech and get more razorbacks???
can you describe the tau tactics when he stomps you?
I believe that he is gunned down before he reaches the lines.
Either deep strike or add transports.
A vindie/predator/speeder to land some fire couldnt hurt either.
Footsloging to the gun lines of the tau, imperial guard and i suspect to the new gks is a bad bad idea.

Praise be to the Emperor!!
Tau has no CC, so the way to beat Tau is to get in CC with them.
Now, this is not as easy as you think, as Tau can also outmaneuver you with their fast tanks.
There is also no point in shooting at Tau tanks from a distance, as they will either be in cover or disruption pods will grant them a cover safe.
In any case, the weapon of choice in the current environment is melta. Drop the ML and take meltaguns instead.
I also don't like small Cruzaders squads. 10 Initiates is the minimum I'd consider, bolt pistols and CC, meltagun and powerfist, mounted in a Rhino.
You could consider Cruzaders squads with bolter and/or neophytes if your list is designed to sit a squad or two back to control objectives, but the ones that will fight the enemy should be something like the above configuration.
Move your Rhinos forward, either in cover or popping smoke. This should help a bit in increasing their durability, but there is not much they can do against the high strenght, high AV weapons that Tau has. That's their strength! They don't have anything else.
You can try a Cruzader squad in drop pods to get their attention and/or deep strike terminators behind their lines.
This will give your Rhinos time to reach their lines and engage those broadsides shooting at you.
1) Don't shoot at the tanks from a distance. It's very ineffective.
2) Meltaguns on your squads (this is overall advice, not just against Tau) and once you're in range, then shoot the tanks.
3) Get in CC as soon as you can. (That's what Templars strategy should be, anyways).
4) Present them a huge treat to deal with or die (DS Terminators or Drop Pod Cruzaders)
and good luck on your dice rolls (This always works )
So to answer the question of how i get stomped. Yes it generally happens when i am moving to try to get into cc with his troops on the way there i get marker lighted the poo out of my units on the way. Well thanks for the help i will start investing on some more ACPs for my troops another advice??
My best mate plays tau and we play nearly every day. The best way to take them is to load up on the high armour transports and hide. Then, when you see your oppotunity, pounce and destory any fire warriors you see. I used to play an Imperial Fists Terminator army and for the first few games I got slaughtered and thats because I thought that I could just come down infront of the fire warriors, they are brutal. Rapid Firing S5 shots are awsome, almost made me start a tau force.
.Kill the main back bone
.Watch out for markerlights on vechals
