I've had something in the back of my head for a while. I greatly disliked playing space marines when i had them, it just wasn't that fun for me. However, what i really did enjoy was my chunky big unit of tactical terminators.
One of my friends has just started ravenwing. it made me think "damn, i want to do that terminator army I keep thinking about". So I looked at potential termi armies. There's space wolves, deathwing and grey knights.
Space wolves are out. Just don't like the idea. so that leaves me with deathwing or grey knights and i'm really torn. Deathwing seem a bit more tactically flexible with the deathwing assault, mixed squads etc. but grey knights offense is just that much better, combined with their buffing psychic powers, they are fantastic but don't have the survivability against incoming fire that deathwing do.
Basically, i'm torn. What do deathwing have over the grey knights? i don't want to be a bandwagoner but i'm seriously considering a grey knight army...
Go Deathwing. Seriously. Grey Knights are a wonderfull army but if it was the tactical Terminators that lured you into considering a full termie army I'm not sure if the GKs would do for you. They are very different in looks, weapons and way they play.
Simply put: Deathwing is the army you originally wanted, Grey Knights ain't.

Black Legion: (W/L/D) 1/0/0 (6th edition: 2/3/0)
Something Wicked... Reikwald Beastmen: (W/L/D) 10/4/1
I don't know anything about GK. I haven't read the new codex.
If you were bored with SM you'll get bored with deathwing. 25 termies, 3 land raiders. Not much variety there.
Not the variety I got bored with, it was marines in general. A terminator army requires finesse, very good target priority and looks cool as F*ck on the table.
also, no land raiders. just terminators.
I've been thinking about doing an all terminator army too ever since I completed my 10 man Nurgle Terminator unit with Typhus... And i've been struggling with simmilar issue to you.
The people at my club are heavily anti-bandwagoners, so choosing grey knights would probably make my life a nightmare!
Deathwing have alot more variance in their units, grey knights have the regular terminators and then the paladins (I haven't read the book, is that right?) but the deathwing have the options of lightning claws + TH/SS in the same unit as a cyclone missile launcher/assault cannon, which I believe you can take two of and combat squad, giving you 2 assault cannons/cyclones in a shooty squad.
Personally I'm going to go deathwing, because the unit choices seem more fun and I'd quite like a chaplain, as well as it being easier to write fluff for - I find grey knight fluff to be all the same really.

As Polaria said it was standard terminators that drew your attention so stick with them - that means Deathwing.
Deathwing have 1 major advantage over grey knights in my opinion - you CAN handle anything whilst Grey knight terminators that get locked in combat with a walker will struggle while even MC can be a problem for them, force weapons or not. Deathwing are also a little more customisable and generally able to handle infantry with their shooting and armour with power fists. Grey knight termis rely on deamon hammers to have any anti armour ability really.
That and I agree that grey knights are getting horribly over done right now. Deathwing are also quick to paint, and while you don't have a lot of variation in a pure deathwing army lists it also means you don't second guess if choice b would have been better than choice a for your list.
in closing - Grey knight termis are more geared for anti infantry - deathwing are all rounders with a lot of flexibility still, lighting claws with a cyclone launcher is a hard combo to top.
I got lost on the road of life
Deathwing Terminators are best run as footslogging TH/SS units with CMLs, and some light support from the Ravenwing and other units. I've played it, and it's a powerful army that's a bitch to kill, but it takes a fair bit of finesse and intelligence with your movements and firing.
I can't comment on the GK terminators - my local GK player only takes a single squad of them, but I imagine that they'd suffer a fair bit from only having that 5++ invul compared to the Deathwing.
Right. Decision made. I'll post something up in the army list forum.
