I couldn't find this out but in the current IG codex and with the new Grey Knights codex, is it possible to take Assassins in an Imperial guard list? do you need an inquisitor? whats the deal?
Nope, no longer possible to do this using the GK codex. Still legal to do it with the Witch Hunters codex I think.
Check any of the Warhammer World tournament FAQs:
The incomplete PDFs that don't have allies rules?
Anyways, I use my Eversor model for Marbo. That is the closest we have now.

It's too bad about Assassins, I really liked the old rules where any imperial army could take imperial agents. I guess it's hopeless to balance it. I just use Marbo as a Callidus assassin proxy. It's the next best thing.
Although it's a bit unlikely I still hold out some hope that the new Witchhunters book will let me build an IG-like army with cool extras like assassins.

Copy, Improve, Innovate
I think the Grey Knight book has shown GW's stance on that.
