After a while of using my 'nids exclusively, now that one of my common opponents at my FLGS has started using Grey Knights, I figure I would bring out my wolves again to see how they do. I'm not entirely sure what I should bring though.
Most likely he is going to have a crapton of terminators, as that was mostly what he bought the models for, so I'm thinking of keeping my normal 2x rune priest HQs, then loading down my grey knight squads with plasmaguns, las/plas razorbacks, and dreadnaughts with plasma cannons.
I'm not sure if it is worthwhile to bring a squad of wolf guard terminators this time. If so, would they be better as assault or ranged? He doesn't really have any vehicles.
Going to be bringing 2 squads of 5 ML long fangs most likely. I have enough ML long fangs I could bring 3 squads if I wanted.
Any other suggestions?
Yeah. Bring plasma cannons instead of missile launchers. Especially if he's not bringing vehicles. S7 still lets you wound on 2's and AP2 and blast means you force more invulnerable saves and can wound more models.
If you're bringing 2 longfang squads, at least bring one of plasma
Bring Njal or a rune priest and watch your opponent cry when he tries to cast his powers in combat and everything. Otherwise, do what you would normally do against a terminator based army. Lots of shooting, with maximum low ap shots.
i wouldn't bank on the rune priest(s) doing too well if he takes a dreadnought your runepriest could be a dud, otherwise high strength low ap shots are the way to go. Vindicators could put the hurt on... wierd i know how to kill my latest army with one of my most reliable ones...
just don't let him get close I6 termies will hurt...
I didn't mean throw your rune priest at the opponent, but have one for psychic defense. That hampers a lot of the grey knights abilities(they are only leadership 9, so you already have a 1 up on them.)
Unfortunately the only long fangs I have are MLers. The army list I am looking at bringing has 2 Rune Priests, 3 las/plas razorbacks, 2 dreadnoughts with plasma cannons, a total of 5 GH squads, each with a plasmagun. Might throw in a predator, not sure how best to equip it though...possibly all out lascannons for more AP2/instakill paladin shots.
If you take WG terminators give them compi-plasma/compi-meltas. That's somewhere between 6-10 plasma shots from a squad of five depending on the plasma/melta mix.
Just a thought on termis.
yes rune priests for defense, but i wouldn't bank on casting anything, thats why i mentioned the dread- more likley you will fail the test to cast, and don't count on him if you get charged either he would be I1 inthat phase so if your opponent was cheeky thats easily one dead runepriest regardless of force weapons.
