Is it worth using Predator Tanks for a Black Templar army, for fire support?
And which build is best?
I'm using 3 predators at the moment. Autocannon turret, lascannon sponsoons. Usually start them on the board, with the rhinos behind them, creating a av13 wall. It's exactly the same points as a standard vindicator, so you can swap one or two in if you want to change things up, without having to go back and rebuild your list.
I tried a variant with POTMS, Armor, and the TL Lascannon turret. It was slightly more effective as it could move around and still fire the las cannon...but with only one shot, the points were better spent elsewhere. (Like on a vendread with str 10 lascannons (tank hunter))
I've also experimented with a vindicator with POTMS and armor. It works well as a counter attack platform, but I always run into situations where there is a chance the blast template is going to fall on templars. (I run a heavy CC army based on challenge vow).
Thanks dude what are the autocannons good for taking out?
str 7, ap4 heavy 2. Since they have to fire at the same thing as the las cannons, usually transports. They come free with the predator . I usually don't run the cheaper hvy bolter/autocannon configuration, because I let the crusaders handle all the infantry. And running the annihilator config is a bit expensive when you multiply it across 3 predators. I also come from the ork line of thinking. I'd rather have 2 lascannon shots, then 1 TL shot.
Cool, so I could take out a Tau devilfish, no problem?
Well unless you're unlucky. You'd have 2 str 7 shots, and 2 str 9 shots, @ 48 inches.
Sweet thanks mate
