ok so this is my story lost my job like 2 years ago couldent afford to buy warhammer or do anything realy so i sold all my WH like 4000pts orcs n gobbos 5000pts orks i was ork mad and hated pretty much all other races more than any other IG (boring) but cleaning out my loft i found ruffly 950pts of IG and some paint so i started painting the IG out of bordem and ayev wallar all my warhammer memories re surffaced i actuley had to stop my self from makeing the gun noises as i was painting i felt like i could relate to the IGs simple humans deffending my home world against all kinds of monsterus creatures.
im desparate to play with them i made my self a list of what ive got im extreamly competative and love to win but i dont have a clue how IG work or this new platoon squad rule so i need experianced IG players to help me with my list tell me the doos and donts heres my list so far i want you to add on top of it to make it 1500pts and even get rid of some stuff if they are a no no ty.
yarick (human version of ghazkull and i loved him so i included him in my list)
Company comand squad
master of ordinance
5x troop squads
heavy wepons teams
3x lass cannon
1xchimera (for yarick he needs some guards but i dont no what type)
1x leman rus
2x heavy bolters
armoured sentinel plasma cannon
1030 by my count give me some advice plz
A force organization chart for IG generally looks like this.
Command Platoon: A officer(A Col. or a Major) and 4 guardsmen. Tool him out however you like. Some people try to keep it simple and add 4 flamers to it and make it cc orientated or stick 4 plasma guns to it. Most people don't go overboard, after all he is only human (not an ork). This will be your main HQ filling the 1 HQ slot. I also do not know if yarrick is allowed anymore (I don't own a codex, corrections anyone).
ie: Officer w/ bolt pistol and power sword
Any special advisors (psykers, comissars, MoO, ect)
2 Troops choice. This is where it differs from other armies as it is a platoon.
You will need a Platoon command squad: Consisting of the above but with a slightly weaker officer; normally led by a LT.
Then you need two squads of 10 guardsmen. You can give them 1 special weapon and 1 heavy weapon for each squad. You need to decide between sitting back and shooting or being mobile to capture objectives.
This then fills out 1 troops choice so you would need to do the same for the other platoon. A command squad plus two squads of guardsmen. All told you'd have around 55 men at minimum. There are more options for the platoon like heavy weapon squads (3x heavy weapons make up the squad) special weapon squads, and what most peopel tend to do these days; veterans squads (a better guardsmen with slightly betters stats and more options).
PQS (platoon command squad)
JO w/ bolt pistol and ccw
advisors or special characters
You can attach a transport to any squad that can take them so your main command squad would be able to take it. Attach what weapons you would like. The usual multi laser and hull heavy bolter generally works well.
ie; chimera w/ multi laser, hull heavy bolter
any upgrades you want like a heavy stubber, extra armour, ect
A leman russ is a good choice
ie: Leman russ w/ heavy bolter sponsons
any upgrades you want (dozer blades, extra armour, smoke launchers, ect)
You may take squadrons which allows you to take 3 tanks in a single heavy support slot but the trade off is (someone correct me if I am wrong I don't have the codex but I've been reading the last 4 weeks) a imobilization is counted as a vehicle destroyed. Most don't do that as it a bit exspensive and the dice gods are fickle.
armoured crew compartment
It seems like you can make atleast 2 platoons and the command sections. You really haven't said if you want a shooty army or to have it somewhat mobile. What you seem to lack is a plan, special weapons, and heavy weapons. Are you going all infantry, mech, air cav, little bit of both, ect? Are you going to creat heavy weapon squads are just have them be apart of the normal infantry squads? What special weapons are you going to use? Are you going to use a few veteran units with melta guns run around? Have you though about tanks? Think about these questions, IG can do a little bit of everything fairly decently in my opinion
Also always put you pts total after every entry. Like I said I don't own the new codex yet as I am just getting back but I know things havent changed that much and someone will probably be around to clean up and fill in the blanks. I just gave you the basic outline of a IG FoC. Hope this helps make it a wee bit clearer.

Yarrick isn't as good as he used to be. If you want an ultra-competitive army those points can be better spent elsewhere. If you take him he's so expensive that you'll need to make him the focus of your army. Personally I'd just use him as an awesome HQ model.
He does give some nice buffs though, so you can build a fun and flavoursome list around him. An Ogryn unit is probably a good way to run him. Him and 5 Ogryn in a Chimera is pretty nice. You can use the shell of the vehicle to prevent the enemy getting the charge on you so easily and he can do nasty things to people. At a high enough point level his stubborn bubble would work really nicely with Straken's furious charge bubble and the moral reroll from a company banner. I doubt it would be viable below 2000 points though.
What you have now is a pretty nice mix. It's a bit unfocused. I'd decide if you want to go for an infantry heavy army with Yarrick in the centre, in which case I'd pick up some Ogryn or suitable proxies (half trolls etc.) or maybe pick a more competitive leader like Straken? Alternativly you're not so deep into an infantry build that you couldn't do what most people opt for and add in a load of Chimeras. That would be the more competitive build but it's not necessarily what you're after.
If you do mech up the main thing you want asside from Chimeras is some more special weapons. Melta guns and maybe some grenade launchers, some more plasma... It's best to always keep the same weapon type in each unit so you don't waste shots and you always want to max out the slots.
Veteran infantry squads in chimeras is a staple of the current guard metagame so you should at least consider it even if you decide it's not for you.

ahh i see no focus sorry about that my view of how i would like the army to look might not be the competative route but i like the idea of a gun line 100s of men hiding in ruend buildings 1st rank fire!!! second rank fire!!!! i was thinking of ratlings to pin the enemy as they try to advance i know if the enemy assults im done for
i also like the idea of pumeling the enemy with huge atilery guns the senteniel is a by product of a box set keep it or not ?yarick is the objective taker btw my bro used him against me he is a lump of chedder him and some jail birds riped throughe a full nob squad in 1 assult.
also the platoon all the squads have top be togeather and shoot at the same target ?
could you make me a list containing the things i have already remember the heavy wepons teams cant be changed nor can yarrick in his chimera (im not paying for ogryians) and the leman rus has the ordenary gun and heavy bolter sponsons apart from that doo as you please with the rest make it 1500 pts please
a IG list looks completley diffrent to a ork 1 lol so much more complicated
Well if they get to you and you've got Straken + 50 men in a blobbed up squad charging in with a priest and a commissar that's actually pretty fierce:
100 + attacks rerolling misses, ST4 I4... Stubborn so they don't fail morale checks... It's enough to make anyone's eyes water.
Yarrick is really not that hot and I'd certainly not take him as an objective grabber. Penal Legion do have infiltrate which is great, but they lose it if a non-infiltrating IC joins them. Adding Yarrick to the squad robs it of its mobility so it's not the best idea IMO. He's too expensive and his rules are too good to waste him in an outflanking role anyway,
I won't post a proper list, im not sure the points are 100% or anything, that really should go in the lists section. What I'd do is something like this:
CCS, Creed, 4x melta Company banner
PCS - 4x GL
30 man Inf squad 3x autocannons
20 man inf squad 2x flamers
PCS - 4x GL
30 man Inf squad 3x autocannons
20 man inf squad 2x flamers
3x armoured sentinels (tarpits)
Outflank the armoured sentinels and charge their objective holders - they are rock solid and extremely hard to shift, it's awesome
Chuck Yarrick in with some of the inf and make sure he gets his 12 inch bubble touches the other squads. Use creed to get furious charge off on the rest when you charge in. 4 orders per phase is awesome. The platoon squads are for fire support, the CCS can be used as an emergency measure against heavy enemy armour. You don't really have much reliable that can open cans but Yarrick can always use his claw I guess.
6x autocannons isn't all that hot for ranged anti-tank but it's not awful. The strength of the army is you're hard to kill with normal weapons and you can kick out a lot of low end firepower. The battles will come down to big infantry clashes, charging in with bayonets after hopefully reducing their numbers through repeated fire. You'll need to open up their transports as much as possible and try to prevent them getting the charge on too many of your units. The flamer squads can easily act as bait, you could even break them down into 2x 10 man squads. It's not a bad way to play.

thanks for the guidence im definatley getting another 50 troopers just fineshed painting them ill load some pics im still not keen on the sentinals they look flimsy lol im definately takeing creed and priest im dropping yarick hes same price as a basilisk btw im getting 3 of them its guna rain pie plates
this is the plan 50 troopers to dominate my side/quater and 50 with creed and priest to take objectives or another quater while the basalisks pund the living day lights out of the enemys side/quater incase of dawn of war im screwd and ahnialation ill sit tight and shoot the crap out of everything that comes near me im guna make a list now ill put it here and in the proper list section see what people think thanks for help bud
To be honest, you will get assualted at some point in the game. Thats the sad truth I'm afraid, but what you can decide is what assaults you and where it happens. Infantry armies have trouble responding to assaults, so you'll need some 'insurance'.
Firstly, add commissars to blob squads (Yarrick can't be everywhere). Not only is this extremely cool, but they stop your infantry from running due to just a few losses, and cannot be targeted in close combat.
Secondly, gvie your commissars and sergeants power weapons. Sergeants can put out a surprisingly high number of attacks, and there will be 20-30 bodies to go through before they will die. Any shooting survivors should be overwhelmed in a couple of turns of power weapon death.
Having a counter attack unit is nice. There are various ways to do this. Rough Riders can work when left in reserve, but this is an unreliable method and they die pretty easily. Its fun though. Another is a Platoon Command Squad with power fists. Penal Legion in vendettas can also counter attack and capture objectives for you.
Hope this helps, and welcome to the guard.
2500 points of Empire for ToXG: Points painted for month 4: 0 Points painted overall: 510
ok here it ive tried to keep the war gear at a minimum to maximize the size of the army and im not familier with it all yet ill have to play a couple of games befor i start useing the more complex gear any who feel free to pull it to peaces took me 2 hours.
tech priest 70
10x veterans - all in dedicated chimmy
extra amour 70
platoon CMQ (1 multi melta) 30
20x guard 100
heavy weapons team 3x lazz 105
heavy weapons team 3x morts 60
3x basalisk 375
1x lee man rus 150
Without him then yeah you'll need Commissars. The platoon standard is really vital for the rerolls. Your listed points costs are way off but please post lists in the list section.
