Tips on how to paint a Cadian Chimera ?

Hey, not sure if this is the right place to put this, but here goes:

Starting to paint my first Chimera today, I have it primed downstairs as I type. I want to emulate the paint scheme that is used in the Codex, just a bit easier, as I am not the greatest painter. I would just like some pointers for the basecoat colour, track colour and gun colour.

And do you paint the back hatch green or metallic ?

    Hope someone can help !

I can post up pictures of my chimeras in a few hours. My general scheme has been:

    1) Prime Black
    2) Basecoat Dark Angles Green (spray gun or airbrush)
    3) Heavy drybrush of Catchan Green
    4) Light drybrush of Catchan Green/Camo Green mix
    5) Heavy wash of watered down Devlan Mud with a tiny drop of chaos black in it.

This'll get you a base green with very nice shading/highlighting, but is a good bit darker than the green that is in the codex.

For the track color I run:

    1) Prime Black
    2) Basecoat Tin Bitz
    3) Heavy drybrush of Boltgun Metal
    4) Wash of Devlan Mud
    5) Wash a very, very watered down orange (one of the Vallejo paints or however you spell it) mixed lightly (very lightly) with scorched brown.

    Gun is very simple:

    1) Prime Black
    2) Basecoat Boltgun Metal
    3) Wash of Black Ink (the old stuff)
    4) Wash of Devlan Mud
    5) Very light drybrush of scorched brown along the muzzle

Thanks mate, that sounds like a pretty solid job. I can start that tonight with the paints I have !

Good advice, I think some rep is in order.

Here is one of the older ones I painted about a year ago. Have some much more recent chimeras that look much better and have a ton more in the way of weathering and detail.

Unless I'm mistaken, that is a chainsword Frost.

But I agree, very nice paint job on that, if mine could get to half the skill of that I'll be happy.

Drive closer! i want to hit them with my sword! sorry, been waiting to write that for ages! anyway, as a fun tip, this is your model, you may not be a great painter but add a bit of fluff to your tank, maybe if you were a great painter some sort of nose paint like the shark face from WW2, give it a name, do something that will make it stand out more in a crowd of green as it makes it a lot more fun to paint and you can gladly say it's your tank

GOD DAMN IT! beat me to it by 2 minutes! to be honest though from what i have seen from the ultramarines movie, a sword is better than a chainsword.

Use those techniques and you'll do great. I love how the wash brings out those rivets so simply, it looks nice. Someone called them "liquid skill" and I kinda agree.
