Sorry if i post this on the wrong board..
I bought a Space Marine Battleforce (i am just starting 40k) and was surprised to find that the full tactical squad sprues do not include a lascannon or multi-melta, not even a powerfist for the sergeant..
Is that indeed the case or am i missing a sprue?
Doesn't seem like it as both images for the Tact Squad on the GW website only show a Missile Launcher/Flamer for special weapons & a Chain Sword for the Sergeant.
Legion Of Everblight: Abyslonia
Protectorate of Menoth: Grand Exemplar Kreoss
You are correct. The only way to get heavy weapons other than a rocket launcher is through the Devastator box. Powerfist on the other hand come in pretty much every kit except the tactical squad box.
If you don't want to buy a devastator box, then I would suggest looking online through google for bitz, as you can buy the weapons for less then 3$ usually.
Check out Double Edged Painting blog for more information on commissions and work in progress
Tactical squads only come with missile launcher and all 3 special weapon options. Sgt can only have a boltgun or pistol and cc weapon. In order to get the other heavy weapons you need to buy a devastator box. To get the other weapons a Sgt can take you need to buy the Space Marine Commander box, a Command Squad or Devastator/Assault squad box.
People got the main points above. I just wanted to mention that you should have 1 powerfist in the battleforce on the assault marine sprues, along with two power weapons (sword and axe). Were I you, I would go out and buy a devastator box next. No point in building a dev squad with it (not true if playing non-smurf codexes), but it will give you a second powerfist, and a few alternate heavy weapons for your tac squads.
When you're starting off, powerfists seem rare, but as soon as you start buying boxes besides tac squads, you'll be swimming in them.
