i do a pedro kantor list, and want to know how to get combi meltas for my sternguards. i have 2 from the commander boxes...and one given from a friend...how is the best way to get mroe of em?? i considered chopping up a meltagun and sticking onto a boltgun...failed epically and wasted a meltagun...would sticking a boltgun onto a meltagun suffice?? or how would you do it?? Thanks
I build most of mine from bolters and the multimeltas from speeders and attack bikes.
You could also try looking into bitz sites. They're a bitch to find, but generally worth it.
I'm using leftover inferno pistols from Sanguinary Guards. Just chop them off the wrist-mounts then cut the front handguard of a bolter away and glue the inferno pistol there.

I took a combi-plasma and doctored it up with melta gun bits... I think it turned out
I stuck a MeltaBomb underneath a bolter. Looks like a sort of underslung meltalauncher attachment. Depends how official you want to be though, you can only get them from the Commander and Sternguard boxes.
Grabbed the model myself Space Marine Sternguard Veteran with Combi Weapon | Games Workshop
But if you can throw a fancy SM together out of the plastics, the combi-melta from the commander box would be the easiest.
Building a combi-weapon is not too hard, I've found.
For a combi-plas I start w/ a boltgun & a plasma pistol.
I lop the handguard off the bolter & then cut the plasma pistol in half long way beneath the coil. I glue that in place of the handguard.
For combi-meltas I do the same w/ the bolter. I then cut the barrel off the melta right against the casing. I cut the handguard off the melta then, right before the two fuel line feeds below the tank. I trim down the handguard right behind where the line attaches to it. I then glue the handguard onto the bolter & the barrel onto it right below the bolter muzzle.
A combi-flamer I cut the flamer lengthwise up til the barrels meet the main casing along the line between the upper & lower barrels including the nozzle itself. Then round off the top of the nozzle. It's supposed to look like a one-shot weapon so it's compact.
I hope this helps a bit. If you need them I can add pics later.
Excluding the commander box I just hit up my friends or a bitz site.

Every bitz site I go to are all out of combi-melta bitz. I like to make them out of infernus pistols. I trim the hand and the bottom off the infernus pistol. Then I shave the front sight off of a bolter and glue the infernus pistol right on top. I think it looks really good. Infernus pistols are selling for about $4-$5 at most sites. That is much cheaper than buying a commander box for a single combi-melta.
The melta-bomb idea sounds, good simply because it would be so cheap and quick to do...
Once a Marine, always a Marine.
ill post some pics for you of my combi weapons, all converted a friend did a few and then i made a couple more, using spare melta guns, and the multimelta from AoBR
