This is supposed to be a thread where people talk about their greatest victories over their enemies, it would be nice if people put a quick summary of the armies fought with/against and then a brief summary of the battles, I shall start it off:
Today I played a 1750pt game against chaos, we had a pitched battle and 3 objectives to fight over, my list went as follows,
1 master of the forge
20 tactical marines
10 sniper scouts
7 devastators, 4 missiles
7 devastators, 4 plasma cannons
1 land raider redeemer
His list was something like this:
1 chaos raptor lord
5 chaos raptors
10 khorne bezerkers
9 thousand sons
I went first and the game started off well with me popping open his rhino with the khonre bezerkers in and then taking a heavy toll on the rest of his army advancing, I only advanced my land raider.
He kept advancing while my devastators, scouts and terminators chewed his forces up, I lost 2 plasma cannon devastators to overheating in the next 2 turns. The first assualt was me charging my terminators into his raptor lord, it didn't go well for the lord.
Again I just shot at him, finished off his obliterators, vindicator and the 2 10 man squads of marines, I then lost another plasma to overheating. He finally killed his first model with a plasma pistol on his khorne bezerkers before I killed them with fire power.
The only enemy unit left on the table was the thousand sons which I managed to deal with through massed shooting, only before he killed 2 of my guys through shooting.
Top 3 units:
1. 10 sniper scouts, with camo cloaks, a nice building and a bolstered defence, these guys had a 2+ cover save and also killed many enemy models with rending and luck.
2. 5 terminators, with an assualt cannon they chewed through enemy armour as well as dealing with khorne bezerkers, raptors and a chaos lord.
3. 7 devastators with 4 plasma cannons, they killed all 3 obliterators ad managed to destroy the vindicator even though they lost 3 members to overheating.
Land raider redeemer, after getting immobilised on turn 2, its flamestorm cannons were useless, however in other games I find that it is really helpful.
In total I lost 98pts of models while he lost 1750pts of models.
I have two favorites:
This one because my army did what it was supposed to do and did it perfectly: http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...rd-moment.html
This one because it was very, very close game against very, very different style of opponent: http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...ath-guard.html (Raven Guard vs. Death Guard)
Revenant Moon Necrons: (W/L/D) 0/1/0 (6th edition: 13/2/2)(5th edition: 14/6/4)(3rd edition Codex: 16/4/7)
XIX Legion: (W/L/D) 0/0/0 (5th edition: 14/12/2)(5th edition Codex: 4/3/0)
Black Legion: (W/L/D) 1/0/0 (6th edition: 2/3/0)
Something Wicked... Reikwald Beastmen: (W/L/D) 10/4/1
Both victories sound great and I have always wanted to try out armies like the raven guard. The first battle seems really iconic and the second battle just sounds fun.
The reason I think I won was because I managed to destroy his left assault flank only suffering one casualty before being able to focus my attention on his shooty right flank. My scouts just kept causing about 4 wounds each turn, along with many more rending, and the fact that they had a 2+ cover save meant my opponent just didn't really try to go and kill them.
I recently used my BA all-infantry list to nearly table a Deathwing/Ravenwing hybrid. Meltas on assault troops is friggin choice. After accounting for the Master of the Ravenwing in a Speeder, a Predator, a Dreadnought, and several bikers, my opponent was like, "I'm beginng to see the advantages of Meltas on wings..." Plus, My Sangunary Guard paired up with the Sanguinor and killed all of his HQ and some Elites as well. I didn't think they would roll over terminators as hard as they did, but it was nice killing off entire termie squads without them getting a chance to strike back. The only thing left on the table was an immobilized Rhino, and I lost maybe 10 models. 4 assault troopers and 6 tac marines.

He rolled for scenario & got annihilation & spear head. I got the first turn. I setup defensively, combat squaded my 2 flamer/ml tacs, putting the sgt & flamer into the rhinos & setting up the ml squads in cover w/ good fields of fire.
He deployed only his warphead w/ burnas (hoping to 'ere we go onto my flank) & his gun batteries about mid table on his edge in cover. He put his lootas atop a building to shoot into my deployment zone. He held everything else in reserve. I put my storm & scouts behind some cooling towers & on my first turn zipped around & flamed the big gunz, disembarked the scouts & shotgunned & assaulted the batteries.
His lootas failed to hit anything, warphead failed his psych test & the grots & runtherd all fell to the storm/scout alpha strike, only bringing down one scout in the process. Things looked pretty bleak though on his 2nd turn as all but his 4 kopta unit showed up & he positioned them perfect to WAAAGH! my transports that were moving foward along the road mid-table. I braced for the hit when his WAAAGH! roll for his 21 ork mob w/ his mega-warboss ended up a 1 & his difficult terrain roll for slow & purposeful was a 3 which left him short of assault range & right in the line of my guns.
My termies failed to show up til turn 4 but through my transports shooting & double pie plates I chewed up alot of his 21 boy mob including vaporizing the mega boss. Then a rhino tank shocked the remaining boyz & caused them to flee off the table.
Meanwhile my speeders ate up hit lootas, burnas & warphead. My combat squads, sternguard & dread shot down his 3 kopta unit. Then his 11 boyz unit ran down & swatted my storm & ate up the scouts. His 4 kopta unit outflanked me & turbo-boosted over my line & bombed my ML squads & vindicators, all 4 pie plates landed right on the mark, but failed to hurt anything. My termies showed up & got assaulted by his nobz & boyz while my speeders killed his battlewagon. Thru combined fire the boyz inside were wiped out in a turn & the boyz in cc w/ my termies were routed, the nobz held & whittled them down to the sgt.
The stormboyz assaulted my ML squads after watching them & the vindicators chew up the koptas that had just bombed them. 3 marines fell & 3 stormboyz fell.
At this point, he decided to call the game. Had he gotten good rolls for WAAAGH! & slow & purposeful he'd have ripped into my sternguard, flamer squads & melta squad still in their transports & my rifleman dread & w/ 21 boyz & the mega boss he'd have likely eaten them alive. Also, had he rolled well for his bombing run, I'd have probably lost my ML squads & maybe my vindis.
All in all I lost:
5 scouts & storm
4 TH/SS termies
kannon, zzap gun - 10 grots & runt herd
43 boyz (incl nobz)
3 cybork nobz
3 storm boyz
Bloody, but I can definitely claim victory here. Not for lack of trying on his part. His tactics were sound but the dice gods were not smiling on him at all. And yet, I thought it was gonna be a bad day for me as, a fellow SM player decided to advise the Ork player how to play against SM, laughed at my yellow marines & then accused me of being over points (not that I see he had any right to make that accusation personally, I feel that's between me & my opponent, but I did show him my list & challenged him to prove me wrong, he couldn't).
Had I elected to stay put, things would have gone a little similar, even had he gotten good rolls, but he may have been able to claim the day after all. Hard to say.
