I hate the suicide squad concept and rarely made use of deep strike in the past, but reading the codex i note command platoon units are counted as one for reserve purposes. This means i can bring in one hq squad, two spec wpn squads and one sentinel squadron toghether?... this is a lot of firepower!
I could drop two sentinels with smoke charges between an objective and the main body of enemy troops to block LOS. take the objective or melt it with the hq and democharge to death nearby enemy counterattack units with the spec wpns squads. Then sentinel's multilasers would dispose of survivors.
Can this tactic work?
although that sounds like a cool way to use the sentinels (deepstriking walls), you have to remember the 2d6 scatter.
personally i'd just take everything you mentioned and use it to rip into the enemy. heavy flamer sentinels are pretty good at that.
but why would you use your Command HQ as a suicide squad? when most people refer to "Suicide Command Squads" they're talking about using Platoon Command Squads, simply because you usually have 2 or 3 of them.
people who use suicide platoon command squads usually use their Command HQ as their Master Vox to boost Leadership of the rest of the army (since platoon commands aren't doin' it!.
Well, if i send a squad alone is a suicide, but a full platoon can disrupt the enemy enough to survive, and nothing has the same disrupting power of an hq platoon with a potential of 9 special weapons, two democharges and the sentinel squadron.
Anyway i missed a little fact... a vehicle can't use the smoke and fire in the same turn, i will have to choose . I know the scatter thing, well, even in real life the best planned airdrop attacks fail sometimes, just for this reason.
I have never made up a drop troop list for my Guard but,
Would your entire command HQ drop as one unit? My thinking is that it can deploy seperately and move independantly... so would you drop say, your command squad, your sentinel squad and your heavy weapon platoons all in the same place with one scatter roll, or would they roll and drop individually?
I am the Aquila-Guerilla!
I roll them seperately and they scatter seperately.

Thats the way Ive seen my friend do it as well, just wanted to make sure I know Im doing it right if I ever put a drop army list together.
I am the Aquila-Guerilla!
All the command HQ counts as one unit for the reserve roll, then when it becomes available each unit drops and scatters separately
i'd just keep the SWsquad in reserve and perhaps a troop platoon. but deploy HQ command squad and the rest of your army as normal.
a 25 man platoon with all flamers would run 196 points. and would *deffinently* distrupt your enemy's plans! drop them behind your opponent while the rest of your army shoots. hmmm could be fun! just wouldn't want to be a part of that platoon!!
no if you *really* wanted to have some fun. make that one platoon a Jungle Fighting platoon and stick some heavy flamers in there!!
command squad 4flamers 64 pts
1st squad flamer/Hflamer (jungefighters) 91pts
2nd squad flamer/Hflamer (junglefighters) 91 pts
1st demo squad (&2flamers) 63pts
2nd demo squad (&2flamers) 63pts
TOTAL= 291 pts.
hmm not cheap, but man it'd be fun!! BURN!!!!
without the jungle/Hflamers it'd run 241pts.
