Very interested in building a Grey Knight army and have not been following them since coming out. I'm hoping that someone can provide me with some basic information about what type of army the Grey Knights are.
The Eldar are fast and unforgiving when making mistakes. Blood Angels are robust, and assault heavy; what are the Grey Knights in a nutshell?
Thanks in advance.
Mid-range murder. They've got the Melee->24 inch range covered like nobodies business, and masters of Melee. Pray to whatever Gods you believe in when they assault you, because it's almost certain death.
Their real weakness lies in a lack of long range firepower for most units. People tend to take double TLAC dreadnoughts with psybolt ammunition to counteract this. They also lack access to melta weapons and lascannons for the most part, so they can have trouble with heavy armor (again, things like psycannons can offset this somewhat).
They are also a highly elite army. You wont be fielding *nearly* as many models as your opponent, so you have to play smart. Don't get tied down to one strategy. While you may be able to destroy any unit it melee, you have to consider if thats your best option. It helps that you can soften up the enemy with storm bolter fire, but just because you *can* assault the enemy doesn't mean you should. It tends to do things like kill a few of your Knights unless you are able to kill them all in one go (halberds help a lot with that). But even then, plan carefully because if you kill them immediately, you're left out in the open and are vulnerable to incoming fire next turn.

As it's been said, a highly elite army of mid-ranged death. Devastating firepower against infantry, but have a hard time against heavy armour. Storm Ravens, Land Raiders, Warror/Melta/Chimera Henchmen and Vindicare Assassins help with this though. In assault they can best almost any oponent on even terms, but when outnumbered can get hurt a fair bit, unless they are purifiers.
essentially they can very well play to their fluff, which is a whole bunch of silver bad asses that can do midranged fire fights and close combat equally well. you can have an army of a couple of "kill teams" (Paladins) that can go through whole units with some heavy weapon support. this is how i see the GKs and that is how i play them, a small compact army of individual kill teams.

Great feedback, thank you for the posts. I purchased an army and it's on it's way. Dreading the painting but looking forward to receiving them.
