So I've heard all the counters, Vindicares, Orangutangs, and meltas from henchmen.
However my friend has a particular love for the monolith, as such I have no idea how to counter it besides throwing Vindicare in my army, which I don't consider the perfect counter, because I don't have a back up plan.
Right now my secondary counter is a orangutang rhino bunker with 2 jokeros and a few unmodifided henchmen for sacrifices, but I was simply wondering if there were any ideas I haven't thought of.
Other than lucky rends, how do you deal with AV14?
Hammerhand + Daemonhammer = Strength 10. Hammer Dreadknights and CCW Dreadnaughts are also (although like everything else that isn't a Railgun, not ideal) options. Unfortunately, we don't have Railguns, so we have to make do. Fortunately, you can usually phase out a necron army easily enough while ignoring the Monolith.
"The sergeant major asked me what my job is. I told him it's to do what I am told. He gave me a medal. I like the Imperial Guard."
"Innocentia Probat Nihil"
One word: vindicare.
Actually, there's a big controversy out there about whether his turbo-penetrator rounds work against the mono. You'd probably have to wait for the FAQ to clear that one up.
Record: Win - Loss - Draw: Hive Fleet Pandora (New) 32-6-6 Space Wolf 7th Co. 52-11-6
Blood Angels 12-4-2 Daemonhunters 20-8-3
Imperial Guards 12-5-2 Daemons 8-3-2
Anyway, anything wrong with using a dreadknight with two doom fists? Four attacks (five on the charge). That's five strength 10 hits. Gotta be good for you. Or have I got it entirely wrong? It is possible.

A large bunch of psyker henchmen with a jokero added in can really hurt a monolith. And of course Orbital relay.
Quorn! - Protein for the Protein God.
A Storm Raven with TL Multi Melta would make a nice mobile anti armour option. Anything with melta weapons I find works.
@ realitycheque: do you you refer to the additional damage at half range or in general due to some special rule, being unfarmiliar with necrons but not hvy armour, as even without the extra damage, is still rather good.
