I'm totally new to Warhammer 40000 and I'd like to start playing Space Marines. I'd like to create my own chapter which would include mainly close combat based (not neccesary) and durable infantry with minimum vehicles. But I don't know hot achieve this since only `Troops` of Space Marines are Tactical Squads which are more-or-less focused on shooting. Please could you give me some advices how to start?
I'm really beginner and I don't have neither Rulebook nor Codex so sorry for some silly things that I may've written.
Thank you. Emperor bless you!
First off, I suggest buying a codex. They're dirt cheap compared to the cost of an army, so even getting a couple codexes from different chapters would be a good idea.
If you're looking for durable CC infantry, then I suggest taking one of the all-terminator armies that you can do. The Deathwing of the Dark Angels is probably the best there is, with Assault Terminators as troops and the ability to give them CMLs on top of that.
OK, thank you for some good advices!
I will probably buy a Space Marine Codex and maybe a Rulebook and spend some time reading it because it's really confusing. It is so much different to WFB...but I like it.
I was reading through some codexes on the internet and was thinking about something like: 2x10 Tactical Marines, 5-10 Assault Terminators, HQ (don't know who to pick yet) and maybe later add a Dreadnought.
Do you think that it could work? I know, it's not very original, but I like the idea very much.
It's a good base for an army - As far as HQs go, I suggest either a Librarian or Chaplain. Captains and Masters really aren't very good, with the exception of a few characters.
OK, thanks. I'll probably buy the Codex, 20 Tactical Marines and one HQ. I'll probably go for Commander as I like the model but I'll maybe play him as Chaplain, I'll see. I was also thinking about Dreadnought instead of the Terminators but that's not important now.
Anyways, thanks for some good suggestions again!
If you want to go close combat you could always check out Blood angels as well they have assualt squads as troops.
Wow, really? That's cool, thanks!
I like the models and the idea of fast melee-based army. But I don't like the colour scheme that Blood Angels have...uhm, I'll just make my own I guess.
So pls what would you recommend me to get if I'd like to play `Blood Angels style`? Should I also include some Tactical Marines? I know, I should get the Codexes first, but I don't want to spend my money on something I won't use you know...
Oh my...I'm sorry for double post but I just saw the `Death Company` and I guess I'm in love with these troops! Could someone suggest me an army which would include these badass guys, please?
Blood Angels and their successors are the only ones that can use DC. If you want to use a lot of them, get Astorath as an HQ, but be careful, DC get really expensive, quickly.
You can use any paint scheme you want for your army, just make sure your opponent knows which codex you use for them.
OK, thanks for your advice! This forum is really useful.
I decided I'll probably buy 10x Tactical Marines, a Commander and then 2x5 Assault Marines and of course Blood Angels Codex for a start. And then, after some time, I'll maybe include some Elites and stuff...
Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate your help. May Emperor watch over you all!
